If you are over 65, you know you are terrified to go to your mailbox. It's like the planets aligning in your mailbox. You get lots of "Vote for ME" mail. Plus, there is tons of " ME is a no good bum" mail. And it's change your medical insurance time. That insurance company that has been saying "No" all year long, is now sending tons of warm and cuddly mail. Plus your getting super thick mail from other super friendly ins. companies.
Well, at least, you can save a forest by dumping the mail in the paper recycling bin.
 

Not over 65 yet, but I get a million pieces of junk now from AARP, prepaid funeral plans, retirement financial advisors, etc., etc. The political mailings are excessive for sure, will be glad when they stop.
 
Same here...I wonder if anyone ever really responds to some of this junk mail. If all these "Senior Bargains" were really worth anything, word of mouth advertising would suffice.

I get mailers for hearing aids almost weekly! AARP constantly asking for $$, I have to be selective, can't send them $$ for every cause.
 
We have just finalized our Medicare choices today.. it took us over 2 years of research to come to our decisions.. From now on any mail pertaining to that goes straight in the garbage..
 
Oh my goodness, we get the same thing here. Can you imagine the money that would be saved if we did not get this "junk" everyday? Not to mention all the television ads about signing up for Medicare Part B and finding a supplement. All this stuff is not free and guess who gets to pay for all this advertisement? The people that sign up with the particular company doing the most advertising! Do your own research and find what is best for your situation!
 
Most of what is in my mail box, I don't even open because I know what it contains. I can almost smell it; so it goes
directly into the recycling paper can. Thankfully most of it can be made into more useful "stuff".
 
I get so much of that junk mail, too. I agree with Maggie -- maybe insurance wouldn't cost so much if they didn't send out all that color, glossy junk mail. That stuff isn't cheap to make, and those fat booklets aren't either. I HATE junk mail!
 
Where we used to live the mail slot was in the garage wall. I would take the mail from the bin under the slot, stop at the trash can and unload the rubbish, then go into the house. That was an excellent setup.
 
I've been getting the junk AARP mail since I hit 50, though not much of it lately since I started sending it back. The Insurance, kill me now mail keeps pouring in.

Be thankful you all aren't getting Trump people knocking on your door checking to see who lives where. Just had two stop by in the same week. I slammed the door on the last one when she started in on the questions about who lived here.
 
In my high-rise condo, everybody goes to the lobby to get the mail and then heads straight for the recycled paper box. Probably 90% of everyone's mail goes straight in there. I not only think of the money being wasted, but think of all the poor trees. I hope they're at least using mainly recycled paper.

Viking River Cruises is one example. They send out heavy, glossy catalogs, which probably cost a fortune. Maybe if they knocked it off, they could reduce their prices to an affordable level!

Hammacher Schlemmer is another example, but at least I do occasionally buy something from them. But I've never gone on a Viking cruise in my life, and don't understand why I'm on their mailing list.
 
Sunny, we get those mailers from Viking River Cruises too! Don't know how we got on their mailing list either!
 
I've still got ten years to go if I'm forced to live that long;) But I just stand on the porch in front of the recycle bin and leaf through the mail. Some days I have one magazine and one bill to two handfuls of junk.
