I'm froze in.

The front finally passed through last night and the sky is clear now but pretty much all day and night Thursday and Friday we had freezing mist, drizzle and light rain......we're 25º now.

I just went outside to start the pickup and Suburban to let them run a little bit and then do some window scrapping and I found out I can't even budge the doors on either one because they are frozen shut.....there is a solid glaze of ice totally covering both vehicles.

Have I mentioned yet that..........winter.jpg

Bummer. It's only 33 here but no freezing rain. In fact, total rain fall for the year is <5".

I agree with your winter sentiments.

I know it's so hard when you park outside in this weather. I was lucky enough to get a garage space, have to pay for it of course but it really helps in this weather.

My grandson works nights. He just came home and said while the roads are salted and ok, he had a hard time walking from the car into the house....kept sliding back down the slight incline. Brrrr.

I Got It !

While sitting here feeling sorry for myself I finally remembered that I had a partial can of windshield de-icer left over from last winter in the garage.

I went out and sprayed all around the drivers door and waited a couple of minutes then I sprayed again and waited a couple of more minutes......then I bumped the door with my shoulder and was able to open the door and I've got the truck running now to finish thawing out.

Oh, I just suggested to mama that maybe we need to pull her vehicle out of the garage from now on and pull one of mine in......let's just say that my suggestion wasn't very well received. :)

P.S. I Still Hate Winter !!

Me too Ike and we don't even have to handle stuff like the rest of y'all do. Going to be in the 50's today and that's cold enough for me. No reason to get out today.

Looks like rain for the next couple of days, maybe even into Christmas Day. Might be freezing inland but here on the coast it's just rain. Ocean temps. are still relatively warm and that does a lot to temper the winter temps., at least when the prevailing wind is blowing onshore.

The doors are frozen?

Just get the pot you use for watering the plants with a spout and pour some lukewarm water on the joint of the door. Don't hit the window with it and don't use hot water.

Don't water the top or you might crack the window.

If the lock is frozen warm the key up with a match or your barbecue starter.

As I'm getting older, shoveling snow gets worse and worse. At least it's not like the winters when I was a kid...... You've all heard the gripes about winter. I was stationed at GTMO, Cuba, in 1971-72. Nope, there were no prisoners then. It was mid 80s during the day and 72 at night. It was like that every day. Even if it rained, it was only a passing shower. I remember seeing dads bringing home the family Xmas tree wearing tees and shorts. I never would have thought I could ever utter these words- I missed winter. Yeah, I missed the seasons changing. The deadness of winter sliding into the greenness of spring. Those few really hot summer days. The color of fall. the crispness. I hated every day-the same. Day after day. After day. After day. I still gripe about winter, but I also love it, too. Families come together during the winter "Holidays". And it's an extra treat to come out of the cold into a nice warm room to be with them.

Got up this morning to a chilly 39 degrees. Gave up the pleasure of dealing with harsh winter conditions in favor of continuing a Christmas tradition we started of BBQ'ing steaks on Christmas day. Weather forecast calls for mid 60's on the 25th. so looks like I'll be good to go for my favorite 1" special cut U S D A choice porter house steaks.

I hate winter too. My car has been sitting in freezing rain all day so tomorrow I probably won't be able to open the doors to warm it up. I'm going to have to watch some youtube videos on how to unfreeze a car that's coated with ice pronto. Winter makes me feel old. Time to find a place in the sun.
