I'm testing my keyboard

Where are you located? I live in Mid-Missouri on a farm. I started playing music when I was eight. I played trumpet until I was 13 and then I got a guitar. I am 71 so that makes about 50 years of pickin and grinin. ( I quit about 10 years ago. )

Hi Dennis, So glad to hear about your music!!! Sad that you gave it up at 61. I'm 81 and had not played music for about 4 months or more. I was very concerned about myself, but today, I played the guitar and sang "I'm Just Wild About Harry."

Here is it on YouTube -- I put it there as one of the first songs I did. I sang it better today.

I live in Oregon. Missouri is a wonderful state! I grew up in Texas (I never liked Texas, and escaped when I was 17). We used to take Daddy's two week vacations in Missouri for two or three summers. Do you know about a place called Blue Spring? It's a beautiful blue spring, so deep that in those old days anyway, they said they never found out how deep it was.

That was absolutely lovely!!! You are so talented. I bet your quite an entertainer. :) Love to hear more....

I almost got to Oregon. I grew up in the Bay Area, California. I think Klamath Falls or Crater Lake is as far north as we went. We did a lot of camping and fishing. I was in Texas for about 6 months when I was 34. I left Missouri to join a show band. I lived in Arlington for awhile. I didn't like it much either. It was very hot...way back then.
I know where Blue Springs is but have never been there. It sounds like somewhere I would like to visit.

We live about 4 miles from the Missouri River.

Thank you, Dennis. You really must try to find Blue Spring in Missouri. I just looked it up - there are several Blue Springs in MO, but the most famous one is here: Blue Spring - Ozark National Scenic Riverways (U.S. National Park Service)

Scroll down to find out about the most beautiful Blue Spring.

Called "Spring of the Summer Sky" by Native Americans, the more famous Blue Spring is on the Current River and is one of the most beautiful places you'll ever find, anywhere. The spring itself is over 310 feet deep, one of the deepest in the United States. This gives it a vivid blue color that one must see to believe. If you were to place the Statue of Liberty in Blue Spring, her torch would be five feet below the surface of the water!

The spring is reached by a short trail which abounds with wildflowers in spring and fall colors in autumn.

While completely surrounded by National Park Service land, Blue Spring itself is owned by the Missouri Department of Conservation.

Swimming and wading in the spring are strictly prohibited to preserve its beauty.

Blue Spring is 14 miles east of Eminence or 14 miles west of Ellington off of State Route 106. A long dirt road leads to the parking area from the state highway, and it is very steep. It is not recommended for large RVs or buses, although in most weather a normal passenger car can make it quite well. From the parking lot it is about 1/4 mile walk down a pleasant trail. You can also walk from the Powder Mill Campground, about 1/2 mile.

Dennis, thank you so much for the compliment on my singing and guitar playing! You can visit my YouTube channel at mariandrake1942

Check out "Hello, My Baby" and the "Meow, Meow, Meow Don Gato Song". There are lots of good songs on my YouTube channel.

Yes, I used to be an amateur entertainer. There is a music store here that is a non-profit teaching store. So every week for years they had an open mike, and performers could sing any song they wanted to because, since it was educational, we could sing copyrighted songs. Unfortunately, they don't have that venue anymore.

I've hosted a lot of Old Time Music jam sessions, but nowadays I sing more than I jam on the mandolin.

Hi Pinky, Jamala, and hollydolly! Wow! Other musicians and artists here! This is a great forum for us!

I've got a song I want to learn, but it's very, very tricky so don't know if I can. It's extremely (and I mean EXTREMELY) fast, and I won't even attempt that speed!

Yes, I hope all of you will check out my YouTube channel! as I said, Just go to YouTube and in the search window type in mariandrake1942

I've visted your youtube channel... I'm happy that you are still enjoying your music in your 80's... how fabulous..:)

There are several talented, creative people on this forum...artists, musicians, knitters, woodworkers and singers.

It still sounds strange for me to say this, but I am a recording artist. I don't consider myself a musician but my professional musician friends do. :D
I always say I'm a composer, arranger, producer. I have released an album and singles of my original multi genre compositions. I'm currently working on my next album. My instrument is the Yamaha Clavinova which has hundreds of instrument sounds and rhythms.

I'll have to check out your music when I have time later today. In the meantime...

I found a web site that features the Blue Spring on the Current river. It is wonderous. Yes, if we travel down that way we will visit there. Thanks for sharing !!!

BLUE SPRING CURRENT RIVER - Explore West Plains

I listened to your music channel. I am a big supporter of amateur music. There are tons of music loving people who play or sing everywhere. I enjoy them more than the "professionals". Thank you for sharing to the world your love of music. Did you take lessons?
My patrner, Misa, played fiddle in Bluegrass groups that met in churches, homesteads and a few bars. She was very good. I have some recordings of her that I cherish.

Hi Dennnis,

Thank so much for your compliments of my music YouTube. There are some amazing amateur musicians, you are right. I saw one who played the hammer dulcimer, and she played the complete Maple Leaf Rag by Scott Joplin. It was complete and perfect, and I knew that because I played it in those days on the piano. Another amazing thing was a banjo player who played, "In the Hall of the Mountain King" by Grieg.

Thanks for the photo. I don't recognize Blue Spring in that photo. Be sure and tell me when you have seen Blue Spring!

You're welcome of course. Here is the link to a post I made in December with clips of 5 songs that are slated for the album. Recently I've X'ed the last song in favor of another Latin track. I'm going to ask my son, who is my studio engineer, to do another Snippet soon. If you'd like to see a picture of my instrument, scroll through the thread. Thank you for saying my music sounds exciting ❣️ I hope you feel the same after you hear the clips. :D
