they can send and receive private messages. Either that or the handful of new members I've sent messages to have already decided not to like me and put me on ignore:(

Up at the top of the page to the right, "Notifications" will be highlighted. Click on it and it'll take you to whatever the "notification" happens to be.

I've rec'd notifications, but didn't know I was supposed to reply to them. If I offended, I apologize.

I belong to a number of on-line discussion boards... sports, politics, etc. Most of those will, when I click on a thread I've either replied to or have opened earlier, will jump to where I left off. Is that possible with this software? Is there a setting I need to change?

Is the "Reputation" button similar to a "Like" button?

For 48 years, a beautiful lady has told me how everything I do is wrong. Now, I'm not on a discussion board for a week before someone tells me I'm doing it wrong. Sheesh! Home sweet home!! :D

You can't actually reply to reputations but you can, if appropriate, return the favour. I don't keep track of reputations but if you want you can see all your reputations in and out by clicking Settings on the green bar, next to My Profile.

I'm sending you a reputation with this post so that you can see how it works.

I only send private messages if I am concerned about a poster and I don't want to express those concerns publically.

Rec'd your "Reputation" and comment about not taking anything personally. If I remain a part of the Senior Forum, you will find I have pretty thick skin. First, no one forces me to be part of an on-line discussion board. If I don't like the company, I am free to leave. And, if the board doesn't like my company, they can sure ask me to leave... and I will. :>)
Secondly, I work in a high stress environment where I can be "blessed" with significant verbal abuse on a daily basis. Over the years, I've been threatened, I've had construction tools thrown at me, I've had the air let out of my tires, and still love what I do. So, any abuse from an on-line poster who in no way affects my life or livlihood will certainly not have a negative impact.
I am old enough to have formed pretty stubborn habits, including becoming quite opinionated. However, I understand that each and every one of us are entitled to their own thoughts and opinions and it is not mine to denegrate another because of his/hers. I woke up this morning. The Good Lord has blessed me with one more day on this Earth. I'm certainly not going to waste it worrying about what someone else thinks about issues most of us cannot change no matter how much we type on an internet discussion board.

Good. With apologies to Star Trek, I have my own version of the Prime Directive which simply put is "Stay sane".
I find it a helpful maxim in all sorts of environments.

I must admit that I have only just discovered the 'reputations' messages. I didn't know that I was required to respond either. How do I send one of these?

You don't have to respond to reputation messages at all Oakapple.
if you wish to send someone a reputation point, just click the star at the bottom left-hand corner of their post, on the green line; and add a comment if you wish to.
a little like the 'like' button on Facebook.

I quickly worked out how the 'reputations' work , and if I feel they need a reply or a thanks I just 'pm' the person concerned but I don't always reply to a reputation comment, but oftentimes I'll send a rep comment myself to some people.

I've been fortunate to have some very nice comments sent to me about things I've posted on here , and also some lovely PM's...:D
