I'm worried for my cat, if something happens to me.

I'm 70 year old guy, and I'm disabled by a spinal condition. I can drive, but going someplace exhausts me, so I'm pretty much home bound. Over the years, friends and family have drifted away. I live alone. So, it's me and my cat. And that's what bothers me. What would happen to him, if something were to happen to me. I guess the piling up of newspapers might alert somebody, but could the cat last that long? I can't be the only one in this fix. Is there some group, or assoc. that makes daily calls or emails to check up on each other?

( Our county had this kind of program, but it fizzled out.)
 

Over here the Red Cross has such a program.

If I were you I would make a phone call to one of the local churches and talk to the minister/priest or pastoral care team.
Explain your fears for yourself and your cat and ask whether they would be prepared to make phone calls.

Perhaps they will give you a phone number that you can ring each day to let them know that you are OK and if you stop ringing they could alert the police to come and check on you. Unless you are prepared to give someone a key to your house, only the police have the right to force entry to your home.

I realize that you are worried about your cat and I would be too if I did not have family; but what about you, there are agencies who would have
someone call you once a day or how about wearing a medical alert tag, knowing that help is nearby would certainly give you peace of mind.
Could you arrange with an animal rescue to find a home for your pet when it becomes necessary. Hope some of these suggestions will help.

First, if something were to happen is there anyone who you’ve talked to about taking your cat – either caring for it themselves or taking it to a good shelter?

As far as someone checking on you daily, check with the Department of Aging in your area.

Ask to speak with someone about home care services. Ask if there is any program where someone will call everyday or twice a day, whatever, to make sure you are okay. Be persistent and tell them about your pet concerns.

Good advice given there Fuzzy. I agree, you need to get someone else involved so your beloved cat will be well cared if anything happened to you. Do you live in your own home, or a condo facility? In a building, you could ask a neighbor or the board of directors for assistance. If you live in your own home your local chapter of elder care should be able to aptly assist you. If you became ill the visiting nurses assoc. of you community should be made aware and could also be of assistance. There's lots of help available these days for seniors in your situation with pets.
 
I would call your town hall and find out about any senior resources and look up cat rescue groups. Perhaps you can connect with someone who could keep in touch with you and eventually give your cat a home if need be.
