In just over a month...2 years without a cigarette

Whoa! This is awesome, Beez, and huge congrats! 🫂 I'll have to confess, though, that you totally freaked me out saying "2 years" because I remember so well when you quit, and... well 100% honest here, I would have guessed it was *maybe* 8 months. "Time flies" is sometimes a huge understatment! You rock! 👏

I quit years ago! I recall that after 2 years I still was wanting to smoke, purely a mental dependency which was the hardest to deal with for me.

At two years, it got easier where I could go into a place and have a drink and not dwell on having a smoke. I am very thankful I quit. I watched my mom, dad and older sister all die younger than they should have and they all smoked.

I believe smoking kills many ways, not just by ruining your lungs...beware if you are smoking, it will kill you eventually if you keep it up...

Good for you!

My husband quit back around 1985 before we dated. Hubby told me how hard it was, but he hasn't regretted it & I don't think you will either.

The only other smoker I knew who quit was my Dad when I was about 6 yo. He did it cold turkey after have a coughing fit that so bad he couldn't catch his breath which scared him. He threw everything in the trash & didn't look back.

Congratulations!

I carried an unopened pack with me for almost a year just in case I went nuts and couldn’t take it anymore.

Quitting smoking is a huge accomplishment, I know because I did it hundreds of times!
Aunt Bea, did you ever manage to stop smoking for good?

Definite congrats.

My wife has finally transitioned to a vape. I think, in the end, she just felt guilty at spending the money on a pack in the UK ($19 a pack of 20).

Of course, vapes retain that nicotine addiction, but will avoid all the additives. I gave up asking her to quit a long time ago, since it wasn't working. This is a decision she made on her own, and might explain why she seems to be sticking to it.

BUT I STILL WANT ONE!!!!

Congratulations Beezer, in one week it'll be my 35th anniversary of not smoking. The urge to smoke lingers for a long time, but passes more easily with time.

I heard quitting smoking was easy because we've done it hundreds of times...

That's really awesome because I know the feeling. I quit May 20th 2013 and for 9 years afterwards I was really at times wanting a cigarette, not bad jonesing for it but at times I wanted another cigarette.

Then of course sanity kicks in and I say to myself "You got away from one of the hardest addictions to ever break! Why do you want to go back to it?" Usually the feeling passed after a few minutes now I barely even feel it even though it's been over 12 years.

Beezer, congratulations on two years being nicotine free. Now, all you have left is your crystal meth, crack cocaine, alcohol and porn addictions. :D

BTW, about your wanting to smoke- I stopped smoking 20 years ago. If the doctors told me I had 6 months to live, the first thing I would do is buy a carton of Newport 100s.

Five days to the two year celebration!

I remember when you quit, Beezer. You expressed the sometimes wild and jumpy. sometimes depressed and hopeless emotions so well. You made a good example for lots of people. Plus you were funny of course.

Don't worry about still wanting a smoke from time to time. Threads like this can still make me think, "Yeah a cigarette would sure be great with this coffee, " and I quit in 1993. I still have urges, but they are few and far between an only last a second or two.

I remember you gained weight at first but a recent picture demonstrated that you look fit and handsome now.
