In other Utah news: Polygamous cult leader had 20 wives

My G-G-Grandmother was Abraham Hunsaker's Third or Fourth wife, fuzzy history, never did get it straight. Never believed in the practice anyway. My wife grew up in one of houses Lorenzo Snow maintained for one of his wives. Broke away in my early 50's became an avid ex-mormon from that point on. No, I never did have horns.
Wow, you are descended from Mormon aristocracy! Abraham Hunsaker is one of Brigham City's founding fathers. Brigham is the closest "big town" to where I live. The local museum says he had a total of 5 wives and 52 children. https://brighamcityhistory.org/people/abraham-hunsaker/

One of the lady neighbors would claim that she was a Hunsaker, 'one of the prominent ones', my mother would classify her as a 'kook & weirdo' that she warned us about when we hung out (played) at the park, we always tried to avoid her.

I am not now nor have I ever been LDS, although, my father, (that dirty SOB) came from pioneer LDS folk some of whom were famous or notorious in LDS history.

My GG.Grandfather had three wives and I descended from one of those unions. Whoopie!

It is interesting, some of the most avid anti-Mormons I have known were ex members. The first time we moved to Utah, when I was in high school, the neighbor lady across the street was one of those avid ex-Mormons. She used to go on about how Joseph Smith was the devil reincarnate... She was pretty much crazy.

I've never been Mormon and have often ended up defending them to the ex-Mormons. In my experience Mormons are no better or worse than other people. Just have strange beliefs.

Several years ago we spent a few days in Salt Lake City. The Mormons sponsor a very interesting tour of Temple Square that's totally free of charge. They pick you up at your hotel or RV park and you spend the day touring all the facilities (except the Temple, of course, which is closed to the public) with very well-informed guides....lovely people. We had hoped to attend the Mormon Tabernacle Choir usual rehearsal, but unfortunately, they were on tour at the time. We did tour the auditorium, where they demonstrated that you could, indeed, hear a pin drop on the stage from waaaaay back in the balcony.

It was totally fascinating and extremely informative. We came back the next day and spent the day at the Genealogy Center, which is also free of charge to everyone. The help I received that day broke the "log jam" that I had been experiencing with my family research up to that date.

They won't let you make a donation, either. We were told that if we wanted to make a donation, make it to our own church or charity of our choice.

I don't believe in the basis of the Mormon religion, but I do have great admiration to anyone who is dedicated to their religion and practices it in a manner that doesn't harm other people.

Gee not again! How come I never hear stories about a woman having 20 husbands. Sure would solve the problem of washing dishes after each meal!

1 big man with 20 women? Why do I think of a stable of horses? Why do I think of a Arab Sheik with a harem?

One thing for sure: no one can call that guy a "One woman Man." As for me, 1 woman is enough!

yes me too.. I stopped watching it a long time ago.. he's a horrible slime Bag... but I read recently that the 2 nicest of his wives have left him... Good!!
Me three! I watched a few episodes early on. I watched a couple recently and wow how things have changed/deteriorated! One wife left, one he doesn't want anything to do with, one is unhappy and now "separated" what ever that means, and the last one cries constantly. All played out for the world to see.

But they do harm other people, there are several threads here dedicated to that. Their habit of "baptizing" dead Jews is repellent and repulsive. Their UFO beliefs and Jesus living in Missouri, I think it is, is stupider than almost anything I ever heard. Their practice of using public welfare money to hide other families is thievery. They are not Christians, they are cultists. F them.

My goodness Peps... you really dislike these people with a passion..don't you ?

Those idiotic women brainwashed from birth. Trained.
They are brainwashed. Many of them. I wouldn't call them idiotic though. I read two books about this. Escape and I can't remember the other one. These women were conditioned. One was a barely a legal adult when she was married to this older man and the other was still a minor. But I know what conditioning and mind control does to someone during their upbringing. These women did very well for themselves by finally getting away. It could not have been easy.

You say Jesus is living in Missouri? Hey, how about sending him up here to Canada to save the souls of some of our political party members? That would be nice.

Baptizing dead Jews & Jesus living in Missouri are pretty wild concepts! Why is Jesus in Missouri? Why not in Nashville; the "Home of Country Music." Now, now, don't get me into some silly discussion about Jesus and his beard and whether that would be a problem of living among the "good ole' boys" in Nashville.

Really! Some people need to get a life!

Well, there is an appallingly low number of dead Jews, who have converted to Christianity. I guess that's why there's a self proclaimed , "Christ", wandering around Utah. I was a psych. nurse, and we always had several "Christs" on the unit.

Cody is down to one wife which is sobbing Robin! I think it’s an act and she wanted him all to herself. I am glad Christine and Janyl finally left him and he told Merry he doesn’t want a relationship with her. They haven’t had one in years. Cody is definitely a creep!

You say Jesus is living in Missouri?
A misconception, I don't think the Mormons currently believe Jesus lives there, but he is coming. When he returns to earth they believe he will live in Zion, the New Jerusalem, which is in Missouri, in Jackson County. They have already bought up the land. https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/ar...ri-key-place-Jesus-Christs-Second-Coming.html

You'd be surprised, their objective is to baptize every formerly living person, Jews included.

They have Anne Frank, Albert Einstein, and Daniel Pearl just to mention a few. https://www.businessinsider.com/here-are-10-people-posthumously-baptized-by-mormons-2012-3

On the dark side they have also baptized Vlad the Impaler and Adolph Hitler... https://gizmodo.com/the-time-mormons-baptized-adolf-hitler-and-vlad-the-imp-5962336

Baptizing dead people is very strange!
Absolutely, I agree.

What I understand is that they believe by baptizing for the dead the non-Mormon souls will be given a second chance to join the Church thereby upgrading their place in heaven. So if you believe as the Mormon's do then it is a good thing they are doing for people.

I have no problem with them baptizing me after I am dead, I am sure it will happen. And who knows, on the million to one chance they are right about things it could be to my benefit. Easier than joining the Church now.
Each of the 20 wives claim welfare; the husband manages and controls the wives' money.
That does sometimes happen in these situations. Since polygamy is illegal the "wives", all except for one, are treated as single mothers by the State. One reason I think it might be best to just legalize it, doubt it will lead to any more polygamous families but might help control things like this.

To be clear the mainstream Mormon Church banned polygamy 130 years ago. It will get you quickly ex-communicated. The Mormon polygamists in Utah are Mormon splinter groups, not recognized by the mainstream Church.

@Alligatorob is correct about the splinter groups, however, I have read the entire book of Mormon
and disagree with them (the church doctrine) on many, many points.

One, The subjugation of women, baptism, excommunication rites, "securing their place in heaven"
for a few but what really bothers me is Joseph Smith proclaiming HE was the one and only prophet
and everything he said was from God. He only picked up thoughts from unseen entities.
He sometimes heard spirits and angels (as I do) and claimed the words as his own for adulation.

Cultures of varied people can allow many spouses. (harems). These are man-made, not laws of the heavens.
I personally don't see it as a sin but rather a detoured path to evolution of the soul.
I don't like the way women are treated as lesser than men by the Mormon church.
In my opinion, the church preaches many fallacies, but at the lifting of the soul after the death of
the body, all will be made clear. Many traditional religions preach fallacies.

On the other side, even though I refute it, I realize any religion that brings God into the minds
of men, expresses God or sings lovely hymns to God should be welcomed and enjoyed.
I look at all religions with a sense of proportion.

Don't want to deal with more than one pair of pantyhose hanging in your bathroom, huh? :ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:

Some of the nicest people I have ever met were/are mormon. Some are polygamist. But religion can sure bring out the crazies. And often they are pretty darn oblivious to the harm they cause. I admire faith. Faith is a character strength I struggle with. .
