There has been a lot of talk in Cleveland for the past several years of getting rid of Chief Wahoo as it is insulting to the American Indian. There are also other people who feel it is okay and will miss it or want to keep the logo. In 2019 they are set to abandon the logo now.

The Cleveland Indians will stop using the Chief Wahoo logo on their uniforms beginning in 2019, according to Major League Baseball, which said the popular symbol was no longer appropriate for use on the field.
The logo has long been the source of anguish and frustration for those who consider it offensive, outdated and racist, but for many of the team’s fans it is a cherished insignia — a divide that has played out at all levels of sports in recent years with teams featuring such nicknames and insignias. Most universities have stopped using Native American nicknames, while other teams, like the Washington Redskins in the N.F.L., have resisted growing pressure to do so.

Here in Canada it's the Edmonton Eskimos that are drawing attention to the name.

They are a Canadian Football Team.

But guess what. Not everyone wants the name changed.

The natives say why are they changing the name? That's our team.

The Native Americans shouldn't complain. I think the logos are clever & cute.

Look at all the attention they're getting !

I'm not Native American, so I don't figure I have a vote in the department of do I have a right to be offended.

A Native American friend considers it offensive, especially when these extremely lucrative sports franchises don't offer to share any of their profits with her people.

Why should they ? Do the teams share with the Lions, or Bears they are named after ?

You're sure they don't feed their old used-up quarterbacks to them?

Edited to add: I got a case of the big-ass grins thinking about Troy Aikman trying to outrun a pride of hungry lions.
