Of course I'd give it back, unless it was something that rightfully belonged to me in the first place. But it's hard to imagine such a situation.

My grandma gave me a thick diamond bracelet when I was very young. An hour later she wanted it back and said I was too young for it. I called her an Indian Giver. Of course they were only rhinestones but I loved it!

Look at it from the givers point of view. They cherished what the gave you as a gift, then later realized it meant a great deal to them. Why make ourselves more important. Live generously my friends - I never try to make it about me. I know, I should be sainted - just throw money instead. (thrown coins are unrefundable my dears)

The former owner recommended a plumber. I called him twice and he never returned my messages. His brother delivers my fuel oil. When I got some fuel oil, I told him what happened. His only comment was "I'm not surprised."

My cousin looked at them and got water to come out of one shower, but it doesn't totally shut off at the tub tap.

Where did the term Indian giver come from? Seems that the European invaders may have came up with the term to cover their own misdeeds.

It refers to treaties made between tribes and U.S. government. It was actually almost always the government who reneged on the treaties. Therefore the term is a not only a misnomer, it's an insult and a term we should find a replacement for and never use again.
