Information and/or misinformation about the Iranian situation.

There is lots of posturing going on as the negotiations drag on. It’s part of the process.

Be suspect of the news, IMO. Just this morning one reporter emphasized that a whole day had gone by with Iran not replying to a US proposal. A WHOLE DAY!! Egads! Really? Even the Iranians deserve some time to ruminate over a proposal, makes lists of the good and bad parts, and then discuss it with each other and finally come up with a response. Expecting a response in 24 hours or less is just plain unrealistic. Another example of the current low quality level of news media, IMO.

Our war with Iran is a lost cause, so now we're going to invade Cuba! Plus, we're spending billions on a new East Wing of the White House, and installing a giant frickin' arch on the National Mall... But that's not all! Now we're going to paint the beautiful granite siding of the Eisenhower Building white to match the White House! Somebody make it stop!!!

What is very funny is that anyone with a keyboard and an internet connection thinks they are a tactical general, polished negotiator, and maybe even a secret agent.
US drone operators are working from the German location Ramstein. I'd think that they use a keyboard and a joystick.

The term "fake news" has been used by powerful figures to discredit legitimate reporting and opposition viewpoints.
The difference between fake news and truth sometimes is only one day. In March 2020 the German government answered that people who said that a lockdown is in preperation spread fake news. The next day the government declared the lockdown.

People should not believe their governments even one single word.

Another example of the current low quality level of news media, IMO.

I'm not going to suggest news media gets everything right, but I did want to add something here. When the media is fed complete and utter nonsense, when huge strategic announcements are made, and then cancelled, in the blink of an eye, when people with their finger on the red button start making outlandish threats - then what can one expect of reporters?

As they say, the snake dies from the head down. That stupid head still retains the ability to bite.

Never have I witnessed incompetence like I'm seeing in this war. It's truly mind-blowing.

Iran submitted a 14 point peace plan for the U.S. to consider, as is posted below. I guess we won't be seeing lower gas prices any time soon.

Iran's "14-point plan," submitted to the U.S. via Pakistani mediators on May 10, 2026, was a formal counterproposal to a previous U.S. nine-point ceasefire plan. Instead of a temporary truce, Tehran’s proposal focuses on a comprehensive and permanent end to the war within a strict 30-day timeline.

While the full official text remains partially classified, media reports and official Iranian news agencies (such as IRNA and Tasnim) have identified the following core demands as the central 14 points:

Security and Military Demands
  1. Permanent Cessation of War: Ending all hostilities permanently rather than a temporary 45- or 60-day ceasefire.
  2. Ceasefire on All Fronts: Expanding the scope of the peace to include an immediate end to conflict in Lebanon, Gaza, and Yemen.
  3. Non-Aggression Guarantees: Receiving firm international guarantees and written commitments against future military attacks or covert operations.
  4. Withdrawal of U.S. Forces: Demanding the full removal of U.S. military forces from the areas surrounding Iran (its "periphery").
  5. Termination of the Naval Blockade: An immediate end to the U.S. and Israeli naval blockade of Iranian ports and maritime routes.
Economic and Diplomatic Demands
  1. Full Lifting of Sanctions: The complete removal of all economic and international sanctions that have impacted the Iranian economy for decades.
  2. Release of Frozen Assets: The unfreezing and release of billions of dollars in Iranian financial assets held in foreign banks.
  3. War Reparations: Payment of compensation to Iran for economic and infrastructural damages incurred during the conflict.
  4. Sovereign Recognition: Recognition of Iran’s "legitimate rights" and sovereignty under international law.
Maritime and Nuclear Provisions
  1. New Mechanism for the Strait of Hormuz: Implementing a governing mechanism for the waterway that includes Iranian control and the right to collect tolls from passing ships.
  2. Safety of Navigation Protocol: Establishing specific protocols to ensure the freedom and security of commercial shipping in the Persian Gulf.
  3. Uranium Enrichment Rights: Acknowledging Iran's right to enrich uranium for civilian purposes under the Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT), despite Trump’s stated "red line" on this issue.
  4. Uranium Stock Management: A conditional offer to dilute or transfer existing highly enriched uranium (HEU) to other countries in exchange for the lifting of sanctions.
  5. Regional Security Dialogue: Initiating a "strategic dialogue" with neighboring Arab states to build a collective Middle East security system.

Here is the U.S. response...

Nuclear Demands
  1. Halt Enrichment: Iran must cease all uranium enrichment activities for at least 12 to 20 years.
  2. Hand Over Stockpile: Iran is required to surrender its entire estimated 440kg stock of 60% enriched uranium.
  3. Dismantle Facilities: The dismantlement of critical nuclear sites, including Natanz, Isfahan, and Fordow.
  4. No Nuclear Weapons: A permanent commitment and guarantee from Iran to never develop or acquire a nuclear weapon.
  5. IAEA Access: Complete and permanent monitoring of remaining nuclear infrastructure by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).
Maritime and Regional Security
  1. Reopen Strait of Hormuz: Immediate and full reopening of the Strait of Hormuz to all international commercial and military shipping within 30 days.
  2. End Illegal Tolling: Cessation of all "illegal tolls" or fees charged by Iran for passage through the strait.
  3. Cease Hostilities: An immediate end to all active military operations and attacks on commercial shipping.
  4. Remove Mines: Removal of all Iranian sea mines from international waterways.
  5. End Proxy Support: Termination of financial and military support for regional groups such as Hezbollah and the Houthis.
  6. Missile Limitations: Strict new limits on the range and quantity of Iran’s ballistic missile arsenal.
U.S. Concessions (Conditional)
  1. Gradual Sanctions Relief: A phased lifting of decades-long economic sanctions in direct exchange for Iranian compliance.
  2. Release of Frozen Assets: The unfreezing of billions of dollars in Iranian funds currently held in foreign banks.
  3. Civilian Energy Support: U.S. support for civilian electricity generation at the Bushehr nuclear plant, provided non-proliferation standards are met.

I have never been so grateful as I am today that I live south of the equator. The northern part of the globe seems to have gone completely barmy, marching steadfastly onwards to self-annihilation. Russia, China, the countries of the Middle East and the United States of America all seem to be caught up in an endless contest for power and resources.

Neville Shute's iconic novel "On the Beach" ought to be a warning to us all.

Saying fake news is often fake news.
Wait... during his first administration we were introduced to alternative facts, right? So, we now have the facts and the alternative facts. We get to choose. Mexico will pay for the wall and we'll see a new health care plan in 2 weeks, these things evidently are not wrong, they're just alternative facts.
