For the best part of a hundred years a railway line ran through The New Forest. When it closed, back in the 1960's, an enterprising couple bought the old station at Holmsley and turned it into one of the area's favourite attractions. Nowadays it's known as: Holmsley Tea Rooms.


There isn't a decent colour photo of Holmsley Station back when the trains ran, but this artist's impression hangs in the current tea rooms.

I think that's a great idea. The one above looks pretty comfortable and spacious and would be a major step up from a tent or a great space for a student.

We have a plethora of decommissioned metal from old farm tools and equipment. Yesterday we took a pickup load to the recycle place. We do this with stuff about every 4 months or so. We made $22.

Yeah, time tends to fly by, and what seems like recent things really aren't.
I didn't know the answer to your question, so I looked it up, and here's the details.

I thought the real issues are how quickly they wear out or become obsolete and then how incredibly difficult they are to dispose of.

This thread reminded me of Freddy Heineken‘s 1960s idea to market beer in brick shaped bottles.

The idea never got beyond a 100,000 bottle test run.

It’s sad that the idea couldn’t have been polished a little to become an alternative to recycling.

Although most have a lifespan of 20 to 25 years, I suppose they are somewhat like a car. After so many miles, the maintenance begins to outweigh the benefit, so it just makes sense to replace them. The fiberglass or composite parts can have a much greater lifespan. I think some fiberglass and composite boats and RV's can last for 50 years or longer, if they are cared for.
