Intolerance to Some Foods

Old age doesn't travel alone, besides arriving with all the
aches and pains, it sometimes moves a little further and
causes other problems!

After a life spent eating anything that I fancied, with no
problems, I now seem to have developed an intolerance
to Mayonnaise of all things, it could be a component of
the recipe, but it is inconvenient, it seems to be a benign
additive to a salad or a sandwich, but it has hidden depth.

I wonder why.

I chalk it up to life changes, Mike... getting older equates to chemical changes in our bodies, our tolerance for certain things diminishes, weakens over time, our bodies not as resilient any more, and definitely not as forgiving.

Same here. I've always liked hot peppers - like Habanero & Jalapeno; never had a problem. Last year we were out to dinner & after a couple of peppers, I had immediate stomach pain & diarrhea. Luckily, I can still have hot salsa - IF my stomach is not empty.

Mike my wife has become wheat and, inevitably, gluten, intolerant in her old age. It seriously limits her choice on the menu when we dine out.
From a small boy I suffered oppressive migraine attacks, really bad ones where the headache was so severe it caused vomiting. At an insurance medical examination, the doctor asked me if I had ever suffered blackouts or severe, unexplained pain like my headaches. Yes , I told him and went on to describe those headaches. He concurred that it was a form of migraine, he then explained that sometimes we are intolerant of certain foods. I had to list all that I had eaten, then omit anything on the list that reoccurred to see what my intolerance was.

It took forever to discover. I'm rather partial to roast beef and all the trimmings that go with it. More often than not a migraine headache would follow, whatever I left out didn't seem to help until the day we had inadvertently run out of mustard. No mustard, no headache. You live and learn. So don't worry about your mayonnaise, chances are there's an ingredient within the sauce that's the root of the problem, just as I had found with the mustard seed.

It could be the high concentration of oil in the mayonnaise.

As I've gotten older I've had to reduce or eliminate some high-fat foods from my diet.

Metabolizing fat requires bile, secreted by the liver. Maybe when we're older, it's too much of a strain to make enough for a high-fat diet. Similar to an old, tired pancreas making insulin for sugar metabolism.

I've always had a food intolerance to every food except unseasoned meat and unsweetened dairy products; guess it's that darn viking ethnicity in my background (no wonder they were so mean, they got no enjoyment out of food at all and no way you could be a vegetarian unfortunately).

My son buys a vegan mayo that tastes very good. That might work if it's the egg in the mayo that's bothering you. I've found that eggs are one of the things that my system used to love and now can't tolerate very well.

It's that big glass of milk (with cookies) before bed that I can't do anymore.

my o/h buys the Vegan Mayo as well.. he likes it, but then again he has no taste buds now, he can hardly taste anything at all.( he is Vegan tho').

However in the last 2 years , after eating and drinking anything, and a cast iron stomach, all his life... he has become allergic to red wine and balsamic vinegar... much to his chagrin, both are favourites of his... he comes out in hives and extremely swollen face...so he's had to cut them out completely , and ensure at restaurants there is no balsamic vinegar in the salads..

Since I was pregnant with my third child, I have not been able to eat broccoli; as in digestive tract goes in reverse and fast-forward at the same time. But that's easier to avoid than mayo for sure.

Bananas now make me absolutely throwing up sick. Not sure why.

I like almond milk, but now anything almond doesn't agree with me.

Nuts, and things like watermelon and other melons don't work. I'm fine with smooth peanut butter. Best out of the jar with a spoon.

I also put in a recommendation to try the vegan mayos. Except the one at Trader Joe's if you shop there. Kind of lousy tasting.

Have you ever tried pumpkin seed butter? Unfortunately, I can't get anywhere near seeds but back when I still could, I made pumpkin seed butter one time and OMG was it ever good. I'm pretty sure it has less protein than nut butter but does have some I think.

Could be the eggs in the mayo.

I always loved eggs, wheat bread, barley soup, corn bread, peanut butter sandwiches and pigged out on all of these foods. Years later I discovered that I had been allergic to all those foods. Small wonder why I've had severe stomach disorders all my life. When I cut these things out of my diet, my stomach vastly improved. In fact, my tummy has not felt this good since grade school. Wish I had known this all along as my dismal life would have been so much better.

Everyone should get tested for food allergies. It may make a huge difference to your overall health.

Can be an allergy to them - much more common than people might believe. Also bananas are generally unsanitary. When shipped they attract bugs, rodents, are carried by unwashed hands, and may contain vast amounts of animal droppings. When you use them, please give them a good washing with cold water and vinegar to remove any form of nastiness from the casings.

I have been thinking that it is eggs for some time now, oldiebutgoody,
I had a reaction to fried egg a few days ago, one had a soft yolk, hard
boiled don't seem to bother me, or not as much.

Oh my!!! Not to be discriminatory but I avoid out of the U.S. produce. First, I don't need something grown in the southern hemisphere because it isn't in season in my area. I can wait until summer here when it's available.

But your post is really some (ahem) food for thought.
