Introducing the new kid

Hi;
I hope a 'kid' under 60 is welcome here.
I've always done things young. I'm the third of 4 kids and left home first. I dropped out of high school and joined the Air Force. The recruiter actually took me to get my GED.
My life story is a mix of soap opera and tragic comedy.
I was in the Air Force 20 yrs. I got some computer training and flew around the world for 16 yrs.
After the service, I got some current computer training and found the perfect job, at a good company with a great boss. The boss allowed (and encouraged) me to do a lot of self-study and take on more responsibility, which lead to more authority and pay. About 2 years ago the Co. was sold to a big (BIG) corporation. I don't have the industry certifications the corp requires for me to do the job I did for 5 years. 5 months ago I was laid off. I knew the layoff was coming, but didn't know when. For the last 6 mos my corp boss kept saying he'd find me a suitable job in the corp...
The lack of certifications, 5 years since I've done any computer training (I was learning technical writing and project management) and my age make getting a similar job beyond hope.
I've got a small pension from the service. I never had much debt, just enough to get a great credit score. I've been debt free other than mortgage for years. I've got enough savings to get me through until social security. I grew up fairly poor so I don't need much.
I got a part time job and a side gig for something to do and a bit of discretional income.
My only problem (so far) is lack of social life / loneliness. I've missed the camaraderie of the service since I got out. Learning a new career took priority for years. My time in the service estranged me from my family, and now they've moved away from each other. I don't have co-workers near my age. My hobby is riding motorcycle; most riders are younger and want to go fast. Older riders have bigger bikes and want to go very long distances.
Which brought me here.
Oh, I'm in southeast Wisconsin.

Welcome, Jim. I play golf a few days/week with a couple retired Air Force "geezers". Good people, all! Hope you enjoy your stay here.
