Is Anyone Else Getting Medications For Free Lately?

I noticed that the last few medication orders I placed with Optum RX were not charged to my credit card after March 10th. Some of them are $28 for a 90 day supply, others just $5. At first I thought they were slow charging the card or that a mistake had been made, but Optum has never made errors in billing before. The State of N.J. employee/retiree health benefits program contracts with Optum. I never got an "official" notice from either that my medication prices would be reduced or free.

When I went to place my last order, a banner briefly appeared that read something like "Due to the Inflation (something or other) law, some of our medications may be at a reduced price." When I went into my order history, sure enough everything beyond March 10th was listed as $0. I also checked about my newest prescription (for which I got 30 days worth of samples first) and it showed that even local pharmacies where the drug is available, would fill the script for free.

I take 3 prescriptions which are Tier 1 on my Advantage plan. My plan pays 100% of the cost for all Tier 1 drugs. I haven't seen a banner such as you described at my pharmacy stating that some medications may be at a reduced price.

I have Humana. Both my thyroid and cholesterol meds have no co-pay. My CPAP supplies & eye drops have a manageable co-pay quarterly. I also have $100 quarterly allowance at their online pharmacy for OTC meds and supplies from bandaids to wrist braces, to aloe vera with lidocaine. That last is not only excellent for burns it is helpful for sore muscles without the pungent smell of things like 'IcyHot'.

I'm getting my blood pressure medicine (generic) for free this year. Also no monthly premium to pay for my Part D plan. I think the plan has a higher deductible than the plan I had last year, but since (crossing fingers) the BP is the only prescription I regularly fill from the pharmacy it is working out to my benefit so far.

I recently received a cream with silver for radiation treatment. Never heard of it, but I heard several times it's a $1000 a tube.

In Australia we pay for our meds ,each script for us WAS …around the $7.90 mark for a months supply .with the exception of items that are not on the PBS list .. ( concessions list ) then we’d pay full price

However a few months ago the federal government…. made it so we get two months supply for the $7.90
The only time we are eligible for free meds if we reach the required Medicare spending requirement call the( safety net) …and to be honest I don’t even know what the required spend is ….We’ve never have had free meds
..cause we only take BP meds ( me) and DH is on blood thinners, so very rarely step foot in a chemist
I only take 1/2 of a BP pill so my meds actually last me 4 months

My mom had some sort of silver containing wound ointment that my impression of at the time was that it was expensive, but I don't know what kind she had been given.

These types I found from googling:

  • Nanocrystalline Silver:
Nanocrystalline silver, found in dressings like Acticoat, releases a sustained and higher level of silver ions, which is considered to have a high level of evidence and superior outcomes in the treatment of infected chronic wounds.

  • Contreet:
This dressing is designed to release a high concentration of silver at the wound surface while also absorbing bacteria, providing a multi-faceted approach to wound treatment.

  • Urgotul:
This dressing releases a silver compound (SSD) at lower levels compared to other products.

  • Silver Sulfadiazine:
While a common topical antimicrobial, silver sulfadiazine has been shown to delay wound healing in some cases and has potential toxic effects.
