Is cash on the way out?

I have been banging the gong about the fact that we're all going to end up using only digital methods instead of cash.. and that's because it's the way the governemnt eant to be able to mnnitor everything everyone spends..

By using cards only now.. this is helping to ensure that a cashless society will be the norm.

People presume it means that the govt will just be interested in their small spendings... and say that they don't care ..but that's not how it's going to be

It's going to be situation where the govt will have complete control of your money, and will be able to determine what and how much you can spend.. and where.., that will just be the tip of the iceberg.... they will also be able to take money straight out of your account at will....

They started many years ago I remember the first time I heard about the $10,000 limit that had to be reported. Another if we finally go cashless what are the bank employees doing for their futures. With a strictly cash society the need for money counters & lenders is going to be affected. Everything online requires less bodies to keep track of it, let the machines do that! Less managers, less money handlers, less regulators watching us. More cameras, more big brothers watching you. drive up windows will be gone, fewer employees to handle the limited trans will need less management. So less people.

Exactly..and that's only the half of it.. and people who use their bank cards to buy everything, are sleep walking the rest of us into this Dystopian nightmare

I no longer have an Amazon card, I had to control of my wants & reality. I watch my DD with her account that I pay for, she make 5+ more orders than i or her mother make. She has a 5% card she brags about. I remove my card after each purchase, much to her chagrin when I do. I want to make it painful to re-submit my card, it slows down the purchase/order process.

This exact scenario occurred to me today: went out for a walk with $20 in my pocket and no other ID or payment, then stopped to buy a donut where a big sign over the cash register said NO CASH. Guiltily I told the clerk that was all I had and could she please make an exception. All I wanted was one small donut. She was obviously annoyed esp when she realized all I had was a 20 and she had to make change. Good grief!

We do not have anywhere that I know of who do not accept cash.. .. During the long covid lockdown, many smaller stores stopping accepting cash... but when the lockdown was lifted there was such an uproar that they all went back to accepting both methods of payments.

However since lockdown.. our banks have closed in their thousands.. where an average town would have maybe 7 or 8 banks of different tyess.. not we're lucky if there's one.. many towns now have no access to any banks at all .. making it difficult to withdraw cash or even deposit it..

For example, the branch of my bank which is a Major UK bank.. closed in my town.. so I had to travel 10 miles south or west to get a branch in other towns...a few months later both of those banks were closed... leaving me a journey of 40 mile roundtrip to access a bank.. which incidentally since the withdrawal of the banks from our town have also had their hours of opening cut. ...so only opening from 9am until 3pm, 3 days of the week

making access impossible for those without their own transport.... so therefore pushing them into card only use.

We use Credit / debit card Wallet with a Cash Bill holder on the side.
$20 / $30 or so to handle places with down Credit Card service for some while.
I joke and say, Illinois broke and bowering money again, usually a Friday or Saturday.

Across Country Gas stops $50 to get on with the trip to better services.

Its sort of obvious its becoming a Card Society of Debits. Debit Cards, Phone Apps Digital stuff. The Bitcoin / Memes are a Gamers / Ponzi scheme stuff. Lost 10% last week.

My knee jerk reaction is Credit Cards / Credit are being shut down by the millions. But if you are a Billionaire the thing changes very quickly.

Until I hear differently the Earth is a digital Society of Digit means Bulk goods. $12 Trillion in Gold, thas all, half that maybe in Silver and Copper.
Believing things are rosy is a pipe bent of a different color and full of smoke / mary jane.

Do I expect shortages as the stuff, ... :coffee: ... sits there with no whare to go. ?? ... ...
Prices eventually crash dropping on many things. .......... no-one needs it anymore. ... they moved on .... Pinheads ignored mostly again.

I was helping my son sought out his large bookcase. Some books going to charity and others packed away for safe keeping until he moves. I always told him that whenever he is donating always flick through the pages in case you find something. Within one hour he gave me a book about the life of that famous violinist Yehudi Menuhin. He said he had never read it but didn't want it.
I flicked through the pages twice, and there suddenly appeared a $20. bill, two $10. bills and 2 $5.00 - $50.00 in all, I showed them to him, and he said he would never have put them there. It's a mystery where they came from. He wanted me to have it, but I didn't want it and told him to buy a nice meal with his fiancé.

My Mother had a similar experience when we were young children. Funds were low and she was worried about not affording to buy groceries. She found my Dad's Bible in the wardrobe and said a prayer then flicked through the pages and there was a ten-pound note staring at her. My Dad said he never put it there, she was so happy. That was a lot of money in the late 50's. I still do believe in miracles.

So, you're the one grabbing up my Saved $20's ... :ROFLMAO: ... Easy come Easy go! ... :giggle:

with all due respect..wrong... while it's legal then digital money can be used for purchase.. only when it;s illegal as it is in this country can cash be it's king !
A lot of the dispensaries here will only except cash. Some accept credit and debit cards. I don't know why they are different.

Cash is non-existent for me with the exception of tips at the car wash. I use my credit card for everything, earn credits back and pay the balance off each month so I am not hit with exorbitant interest fees. Last month I earned a $237 "pay yourself back" bonus that was credited to my account. I paid our property taxes with my AA card and earned enough miles to retain Gold status. What benefits to I get by using cash?

Good for you!

Our tax assessor charges for credit card payments.

Benefits of using cash? Considerably lower rates for services such as lawn care. Perfect in home hair cuts:)

Many utility bills and such can be paid by using your checking account. Often it's as simple as providing the account and routing/transit numbers off your checks. This rarely gets the "handling fee" added.

Most banks also offer some sort of online bill payment, so you can "push" the payments to your creditors.

I worry about the abuses of non-cash payment possible under a hostile regime with an agenda. The Canadian Truckers' account freezes and seizures was a pretty disturbing event. But at the same time I find myself spending hard cash less and less and I haven't really touched my Covid stash yet. I barely use ATMs now except to deposit a rare paper check.

Everone knew what book Mumsy kept her play money in.

Double check which party is pulling the transaction.

I have posted against the idea of a cashless society. I've relented and went with 'AutoPay' for all my monthly bills for the last 2 months, very easy to adapt to. I have 4 $1 bills in my wallet for 6 months now. Yes with the exception of my credit card bill everything is & can be on auto pay. 'AutoPay' can even be applied for that as well but I like some control on something. Being retired I do have feeling for the current employees at my pension headquarters, But I guess that's normal progress and I should embrace it.

Our landlord still wants a monthly check (no credit card) but will accept 'Autopay'. He just doesn't want cash too easy to lose & and it's an accounting headache.

I've been to restaurants in the past year that seem to want to get back to cash. Well at least IMO, because they are charging 3% and 4% fees for using credit cards. Unless my card is giving 5% or more in cash backs for restaurants, that causes me to use cash. Otherwise, unless it's something under $5, I hardly use cash anymore.
