Is Diet Soda Toxic?

Last year I was tapped to bring cold beverages to the family Christmas party. Knowing almost everyone is diabetic, I brought "lite" fruit juices and diet soda. Hardly anyone touched them. I asked around as to the cause and a consensus was that diet fruit juice tasted like kool-aid and diet soda was "poison". I never heard of diet beverages being toxic. I am again chosen to bring the beverages. Any suggestions on what I could bring?

Unsweetened iced tea with packets of various sweeteners, lemon slices etc.

Stevia is a natural sweetener you can buy in packets.

I agree with iced tea. Lemonade may work. Bring a bottle of regular soda in case.

Better yet- ask some people what they would like.

"Diet Soda", IMO, is a Scam. The artificial sweeteners trick the brain into wanting More....which is good for the soda companies, but NOT the consumers. Some of the ingredients....especially ASPARTAME...can be quite toxic. For years, I have used that stuff as an Ant Repellent/Killer.

Tell them cold beverages are too heavy for you to carry, ask if you can bring one or 2 of those nice big store bought trays of raw veggies & dip. I never heard of any one starting an argument about whether or not raw veggies were good or bad for people ( especially diabetics) (unless they have dental or digestive problems). & Every forum goes through the diet soda arguments & I’d hate to see it start up here again.

With almost 10 teaspoons of sugar in can of non-diet coke, as a diabetic that's toxic to me. Come on now, we all pick our own poisons. That's the truth.

1. Any pop that is not a diet-cola is a sugar laden drink, see post 10.
The worst of the worst is Mountain Dew, with almost double the amount of sugar other cola drinks have-the rotten teeth in regions where this is the number one cola is decay city.

I'm sure the manufacture would have informed us if it were harmful-as did Johnson & Johnson's Baby Power being a carcinogen, it just isn't so (sure they would).
Wrangling with attorney's continue: The product was proven to be a 'unsafe'
product two years ago, Johnson & Johnson was aware of the danger-when?
That is what the wrangling is about. They knowingly, continue to produce and market a cancer-causing item-how many years?

"Say it ain't so Joe."

The good news is that over the years you have been able to find out what they don't drink.

Why not ask the party organizers for some suggestions of what they feel would be appropriate for the group.

If that doesn't work then next year volunteer to bring the rolls.

Diet products restrict your blood flow to the brain. Nuero doctors and I have been to the best advise you not to drink anything with artificial sweeteners. Moderation is the key. Why not bring some regular sodas, lemonade and tea drinks.

Diet soda is a chemical brew. I don't know how unhealthy it is. But I'm diabetic & I decided that small amounts of regular sugar are healthier than a chemical drink. At least sugar is something our bodies use for energy - unlike Phosphoric Acid. I don't know what our system does with the ingredients in diet soda.
"Small" amounts for me: 1/2 tsp in my coffee. If I'm craving something sweet, one small bite of a cookie or half an apple, etc.
The problem with soda is the 10-12 tsp of sugar in a can. And, who drinks one can on a hot day? Years ago, I'd drink Pepsi instead of water - around 5 cans/day. That's 60 tsps., not counting other goodies...

All diet sodas are unhealthy. I drink orang juice with 50% of the regular calories then I dilute it with 50% water. It still packs nice sweet punch. Try doing the same with nay natural fruit juice if you are watching calories.

Toxic? Not if you don't mind all that sugar (even in "diet" sodas) and don't mind the effect of anything carbonated on the bones. Heck, drink up!

Martinelli's sparkling cider is a Thanksgiving staple in my family. I LOVE it. I'm normally not a juice or cider fan, but I love this stuff. Very fizzy and sweet but not too sweet.

True. All soda, diet and other, can contribute to osteoporosis.
