Is it cold enough for your heating yet ?

Our temperatures have been a roller coaster the past couple of weeks. We've been turning on the furnace at bedtime, since the morning temps have been dipping into the 40's. This past weekend we had frost/freezing warnings Sat. morning, so I loaded up my outdoor wood furnace Friday night, and let it run for about 15 hours....good time to make sure its still working good.

Our building heats and cools with a boiler system and I own a condo. I am on the board and every year the date for heat or AC depends on the weather. I own a space heater that I can use in between. Part of the problem is some condos get a lot of direct sun while others don’t get much or have big trees to shade. It’s hard to make everyone happy.

I have my heating on from 7am until 10am
as its a combo boiler the radiators heat up instantly
they stay warm until 1pm , then I put it back on until 4pm
then it goes off …….
I have oil ,and electric ……

yes that's something I never thought of, with a communal heating system

I have turned my heat on a couple of nights within the last week. Only at night. Honestly, I would not have even turned it on except Rabbit acted like he was cold. And he is on the floor so it was cooler there.

25 years ago I bought a condo that had a communal heating system but our AC unit was in the fake ceiling in the hallway. You used the same thermostat for both but had total control of your heat and AC which were always working.

I assumed this condo was the same because it’s the same builder and I have a fake ceiling in my hallway. Turns out that my blower is up there. I didn’t realize the difference until I moved in.

Condos are NOT a type of building, they are a type of ownership. Our first 2 were townhouses and the one we are in now is a 3 story apartment building. All three are both heated and cooled by the same individually owned AC system. If your next door neighbor is an eskimo you both can choose your own temperature. I find as I age I need less cooling.

I had forgotten about this possibility. If we ever move to a condo, I’ll have to consider it.

About a week and a half ago, it was so cold in here that I wore a long sleeved T shirt, a hoodie and covered with a blanket when I went to sleep. I had turned the thermostat all the way up but found our heat hadn't started coming up yet. As a few days ago, it started coming up, but it's been warm enough that I had to turn it down or off. Yesterday was in the 70's and it's in the 50's We don't pay extra for heat and hot water in our complex which served us well when the cost of heating oil shot up.

it's always confused me.. the meaning of Condo, we don't have that here..

Not had the central heating on yet and still have some of the windows open. I like this weather, it's bright and crisp although, looks overcast this morning.
yes me too.. altho' it is getting cold at night now. 6 degrees last night.. but I'm still opening the windows every morning as soon as I get up..

Yes, same here but I like cold bedrooms so the window will be open until it gets cold enough for the central heating to go on.
