Is it peaceful around American polling stations?

Very calm and orderly here, at least when I drove by.

I put mine in a dropbox last Friday and didn't see anyone else there though I was expecting a bit of a line. My guess is that a lot of ballots were mailed.

I am a bit surprised that they still allow open access to the elementary school when so many church basements, fire halls, etc… might be a better choice in today’s world.

Perhaps they did that so the extremist political zealots can learn how to behave properly from the middle schoolers. :)
 
The electorate is split. If someone attacks, it must be one who hates both. Don't see any one sided attacks, that would be so stupid given the half/half nature of today.

I wonder if it's peaceful in swing states? How many members here reside in swing states? Is it peaceful there and can you tell us what swing state you are in? :unsure:
 
Our governor has activated the National Guard. They are on standby. The head of the Guard is authorized to use them to help local law enforcement as needed if things get out of hand. This will last through Nov 7. It’s probably a useful precaution. A number of other states have done the same thing

So far the brave Guardsman don’t have much to do other than wait for a possible call.

Actually, I did a bit of research after posting this message, and updated it (#9). The Guard is on standby. It’s a precaution based upon the fire bombing of a ballot box in the state among other things. Makes sense to me. Apparently a number of states have done the same thing.
 
Yesterday, here in Toronto, we had a by election to fill a vacant city council position. The previous council member died earlier this year from cancer. The district has about 77,000 eligible voters, and about 55,000 of them voted yesterday. The winning candidate was the previous head of the Toronto District School Board, and she won with a sizeable majority of 13,000 votes, over the next closest runner up. No disruptions, no problems, the outcome was known within 3 hours of the close of voting at 8pm. JIM.
 
We had a lot of different propositions, amendments, ballot measures, ordinances, as well as all the candidates to vote on in this election... three pages, front and back. I'm glad we were able to vote using mail-in ballots. It would have been a real pain in the butt to have to vote for all that at a polling station, even if I had a sample ballot filled out in advance. I like voting from the comfort of home. I can be more confident that I didn't make any mistakes. :)
 
I voted early ( Oct 22) in metro Atlanta. There was not a lot on the ballot and I had done my homework. The place was mobbed. I took my rollator walker for its first outing and they let me and the guy who was with me go ahead! We were in and out in 15 minutes.
 
I think today will be fine, not sure about days to come. Laws against wearing campaign gear in polling places will keep things tamped down today. Campaign gear has been the pre-election day trigger it seems. One Hollywood producer out walking his dog saw a young woman jogging with gear on he didn't like and told her he hoped she would get raped because of her political choice. He messed up because the woman has a huge social media following and posted video of the incident. There have been a few other similar incidences but only one I've read about with actual assault.
