Is it time for 60s rock stars to pack it in?

I heard that some rocker from the 60s was doing a "tour". He's 86. And I sure he looks, acts and sings just like he did when he was 19. :unsure:
What's more important? Seeing a 60s rocker one more time, even if it's a somewhat sadder version. OR having the memory of a great performance from the 60s.
Is it time for 60s rock stars to pack it in?
 

When I was young I had didn't have the free time, money, or a car for "concerts." So I never got into the habit, and enjoyed music by radio and recordings instead.

There are a lot of "live concert" videos out there, but my ears are attuned to original releases. So they mostly feel like poor quality covers and it often hurts my mental "ears" to listen to them.
 
There may not be many rock stars from the 60's who can still command an audience, but if they can, then they should continue their work, if it pleases them. If the question is expanded to include other famous musicians besides just rock stars, I have two in mind who have done some of their best work in their later years: Dolly Parton (79) and Willie Nelson (92).
 
This video is from 5 years ago, when ZZ Top had been playing for 50 years. In 2021, drummer Dusty Hill passed away, but they're going on without him. May he rest in peace.🌹 Check out the audience at the end of the video. It looks like these old rockers don't have any trouble packin' 'em in. Bless them, and may they rock on!

I agree.

Personally, I wouldn’t want the hassle.

If I was someone like Diana Ross, I would belt out an occasional tune for some sort of benefit and leave my fans clamoring for more.

I can’t believe that she, and several others in their 80s, is still touring.
 
A 70's Canadian band called Triumph, had a national number one hit here in Canada, called "Lay It On The Line. This spring, during the Stanley Cup hockey playoffs, that song is being played every night that the Edmonton Oilers are playing as the music lead into the CBC sports broadcast begins. Triumph have a whole new set of Canadian fans, now.

The end music if the Oilers win....Is La Bamba, sung by Richie Valens. Not many fans know that THE Original recording group to do La Bamba, were a British band, The Roulettes, who put out a record on PYE in the UK in 1962 way before Vallens recorded it in the USA. JIM.
 
It depends. My wife and I used to go to concerts or smaller music venues in Boston and Providence nearly every weekend for a couple of decades. My first real concert I saw Led Zeppelin in 1972 when they were at their peak, I wouldn't want go to see them now even if they were still together. I can't imagine Robert Plant siting on a stool singing Whole Lotta Love. That pretty much goes for all the high energy 60s/70s bands I have seen over the years. It would ruin too many fond memories. Jazz on the other hand is different. For instance we saw Dizzy Gillespie, Lionel Hampton and Dave Brubeck late in their lives. They were still firing on all cylinders. I would go see them anytime.
 
I've attended large numbers of concerts my long adult life here in the SFBA that world class rock groups usually visit. And that includes many in recent years. Most such iconic bands play most of their material just as well as they ever did even with a few fill-in players because such is so burned into their brain motor control neural plasticity of musician movements. Also sounds systems at large venues like stadiums and arenas due to computers is immensely cleaner, less distorting, better. Yes, some nay not sing quite as well but that is usually trivial.

And how much are you willing to pay for tickets? Could be hundreds. The trend is to dress down like fans do.
Very old country stars like Bill Anderson at 90 still performs at grand ole opry. Moe Bandy in his 80s still great I saw years ago for free. Mickey Gilley also in Branson Mo. until he passed on a few years ago. I can name others.
