Is prison too harsh a sentence for aborting a child almost full term ?

She knew she was pregnant by another man... she moved back in with her estranged partner and wanted to hide the pregnancy from him... The prosecution said the woman, , made a number of internet searches between February and May 2020, including "how to hide a pregnancy bump", "how to have an abortion without going to the doctor" and "how to lose a baby at six months".

That means she allowed at least 4 months of knowing she was pregnant and wanting to abort it, before she took action at the eleventh hour..
Yeah, that makes me angry. She waited for totally selfish reasons, nothing to do with her well-being and nothing to do with the baby's well-being. She did it bc she didn't want to lose her man.

She's didn't get a life sentence, but, for what it's worth, she will be punished. I think that's fair.

I suspect her pain & anguish came from fear of a lengthy jail sentence. Planning & using the new law to call for the meds to abort an 8 month viable fetus IMO constitutes premediated murder.

What would you think if the "father" punched her in the stomach enough to kill the 8 month old fetus?
Oh you are right.

I think she did a terrible thing. But the circumstances need consideration, I do not think she can have been in her right mind at all. The whole thing is a tragedy apart from breaking the law and being morally wrong.

Young women are choosing colleges based on the state it is in before academic qualities.
OMG this implies that these young women are assuming they will get pregnant, and have an abortion. Whatever you think about a woman’s right to choose, surely this is a tragic loss. Birth control is widely available and cost effective. And pretty damn reliable.

I heard that on NPR the other day. What a stupid thing to do. If she wants to make sure she finishes college before having a baby wouldn't it be a lot easier to get an implantable contraceptive that lasts up to three years?

I'm all for women controlling their own bodies. A woman who plans to have an active sex life, doesn't want to have a child, and neglects to use birth control, is not controlling her body at all.

Btw, since I did get knocked up before marrying I guess being smart only lasted about 12 years, But, it was the right time with the right man and the rightest of all sons.

Reading about the woman this morning it sounded like the abortion pill wasn't available during the early months of the pregnancy? Did I understand that right?
She also didn't seem to be doing the time honored trick of passing the baby off as her husband's. Why wasn't she doing that? Was her husband not having relations with her? Is that why she was having an affair? Or was the baby going to be of a different race?
She seems to have been in a full on state of panic.

Yes Carla Foster did wrong, very wrong. A desperate person clutches at any straw. Is she immoral? Who has the right to judge her except the Judge who sentenced her because he is obliged to follow the letter of the law.

Except for her psychiatrist, no one else knows the state of her mind when she was planning this. No I do not want to see other women go through this sad dilemma…so the UK law must change.
When the law changes and women have complete rights over their bodies…let us pray, they use it wisely and make well informed and moral decisions.

Now three children (one with special needs) are left without a mother for a length of time. I think of her children here…this period is a long time in the life of a child.

Of course punishment is necessary, but is prison the answer? In my opinion no.

Not so... the abortion pill was available.. it was just that she didn't see a Doctor, because according to her statement she 'felt embarrassed''... she didn't pass the baby off as her husbands' because she wasn't living with him at the time.. and she didn't know which of the 2 guys she was now sleeping with was the father... she'd moved back in with her husband and hid the pregnancy from him... she knew 4 months before she took the pill that she was pregnant.. so she could have aborted the baby then.. but she waited until it was almost full term, killing the baby and going through birthing a dead baby!

I have so much to say on this topic, and none of it is unlikely not to cause rancor. I have strong feelings about it, but I have choose how I alienate people. Hence.....................

I suspect these young women cannot help but see highly restrictive abortion laws as general indicators of how these states view women, education options, and general political leanings of a state, and are taking that into consideration when deciding on a university.

I'd certainly counsel my granddaughter to look at more than just the school itself when choosing a university.

The NPR story seemed to be talking about young women who had been planning to go to college in their home state and now were going to scrap those plans and go to an out-of-state college for this reason alone, which in most cases means it will cost more.

This is a very very disturbing story on many levels. Women have fought long and hard for autonomy in regards to their bodies…and stories such as these make it difficult for responsible women to have choice. Birth control is not infallible…and I personally know two children well whose mothers took it diligently. There are people who need options…then there is this fool.
