Is she a picky package pirate, or a nice neighbor?

Some gal came to my door this morning with an Amazon package addressed to me. She said it was delivered to her by mistake. It had been opened. She said she didn't notice it was delivered to her by mistake until after she opened it.

What BS.

She does live on my street. I've seen her before. I've waved to her a couple times, and she waved back. Same with Michelle.

Anyway, what was in the package was a cat-scratcher thing...one of those things cats can hone their claws on. A cheapo cardboard one.

I think she brought it to me because she didn't want it. True, she could have just tossed it in the trash, so it's cool she gave it back, but I'm sure she took it from my porch. The coincidence of her expecting an Amazon delivery the same time as me is too slim, imo.

Plus, her home address doesn't resemble ours. Not one digit is the same. And all our house numbers are painted on the cement above the gutter...large black numbers on a white background. I just don't think an Amazon driver would confuse the two addresses, even if they just took a quick glance.

I might give her the benefit of the doubt this one time. Any other reason to suspect she took it? I think if she did she would have tossed it, not brought it to you. 🤔
 
I've had misdeliveries a number of times. In every case I can remember either the house number was the same but the street was different (though very close, like 1 street over) or else the street was correct but some digits were reversed. The package address was correct, but the delivery was to the wrong address.

Sounds like a case of fearful cranky old bugger conspiracy theories to me. But they do create the market for those doorbell cams, a labor-saving device in that you no longer need to sit in that rocking chair behind the drapes peering out all day with the Matlock marathon playing on TV with the volume low while shushing your parakeet.
 
I made a similar, quite embarrassing mistake, twice. Both were packages that had been misdelivered to my apartment door. As soon as I opened one and saw that it was makeup and not the books I'd been expecting, I hastily taped it back up and left it at the door of the proper recipient with a note of apology and explaining what happened. She left me a very kind note of thanks the next day.

The second one was strange: books from a third-party seller on Amazon that I had in fact placed an order with, but these books were intended for my next-door neighbor (a different neighbor this time). What are the odds that she and I would both order books from the same third-party seller? Again, I taped it up and left it at her door with a note of apology and explanation.

I agree with @hearlady; you may want to give this person the benefit of the doubt this time.

Yeah, I'm not going to make an issue of it. It's possible she was expecting an Amazon delivery around that time and about that size, I just don't think it's likely.
 
I've had that happen, l don't think it was a porch pirate though. I can see or hear anyone out there. But it didn't arrive. We do get
other people's mail once in a while and make sure it gets re-mailed. It could be in this case they didn't look at the name and address. I ordered it again.It was a Thunder Shirt for a little Pomeranian. He gets so scared at fireworks. And guess what. He refused to wear it.

Except we have at least 5 different pkg delivery services in this area. In fact, you don't see an Amazon truck here very often.

I do have a small reasonable doubt, but I'm gonna keep an eye on her.

I spend most of my time at the back of our house, which is some distance and a few walls from the front door and the porch. I have a doorbell, and a note in plain view telling delivery people to ring it when they leave a pkg, but a couple of them don't, including Amazon. I also get text alerts from companies I order from, but Amazon is one that doesn't text me, even though I signed up for the alerts.

But I can track packages online. I'll make a point of tracking Amazon ones from now on.

When I get a delivery from Amazon, the driver takes a picture of it where he left it. Did you get a picture on the "Track my package" page?
 
We had several packages delivered to our house that were to the same other person.
Turns out the Amazon Drivers Map was unable to see the correct house - so they dropped off several at our house....similar address, I guess?
I opened one by mistake but we took them all to the rightful owners house.
Amazon finally got their Map App fixed - I guess as we stopped getting this persons packages.
It does happen sometimes.

Well, anyway, I'm sure I'll think of it....she's not very friendly, I'll just put it that way.

Doesn't mean she steals people's packages, necessarily. :p

I would be more concerned with the gossipy neighbor.

It’s been my experience when people gossip about others they will also gossip about me, pump me for information, etc…

I’ve opened mail intended for others and owned up to it when I took it to the intended recipient.

Who knows what people said or thought about me. 🤷‍♀️

It probably would have been better if she just threw it away and got on with her life.
