Is There a Trick To Ripening Fruit?

A lot of fruit isn't fully ripe when you buy it. That's my experience anyway. Last week I bought two nectarines at Winco. One yellow and one white. The white one ripened on the counter just fine. The yellow one got that wrinkly skin and was still kind of firm. I put it in the fridge and this morning, finally cut up the inside and put it in my oatmeal. It was still decent inside. I didn't eat the skin. Does this happen to anyone else? Is there a trick to ripening stone fruit?

Put them in a small paper bag, twist the bag shut.
This works with avocadoes, so it's probably the same for other fruits.
Google seems to agree. :)

"How do you ripen stone fruit quickly?

All you need to ripen fruit is a paper bag. Yes, really! Simply place the unripe fruit in a paper bag and it will trap the ethylene gas, causing the fruit to ripen quicker! Place a ripe banana or apple in the bag with the unripe fruit to speed the process up even more!"

I didn't even think to try Google. I don't know why the skin wrinkles though and it only did on the yellow nectarine.
