Apparently this is supposed to be easy as pie but for some reason I don’t get it.
I belong to Smule, which is a place which a huge selection of background music for those wishing to sing, play on instrument, or both.
You can do a vocal or instrumental solo or join others.
I’ve done quite a few songs with this app but what I’d most like to learn is how to download these background tracks into my own personal songbook.
Here are the instructions from Smule on how to do it.

4. Enter the title and artist of your song. If we already have it in our system, we’ll suggest a match.
Enter the genre and the mood of the song (required).
5. On the next screen, add the lyrics to the song by pasting them in the text field.
On the right, you have the option to select which user should sing each lyric in a duet performance, by clicking on the tiles.
6. Then, you have to time your lyrics to the music.
Tap the spacebar or click your mouse to indicate when the singer should see a given line on the screen.
As soon as that line should appear, click it with your mouse or hit the spacebar.
The speaker icon appears to show you what the singer would currently be singing.
When you’re ready with timing the lyrics, click “Next”.
7. On the next screen, you can select which part of the song is the intro, the verse, pre-chorus, chorus, bridge, etc.
This is in order for you to be able to select a Moment when you sing your song later on. Click "Save" when ready.
8. All done! The song you uploaded can be located in your Smule account.
Supported formats: m4a, mp3
16 Bit, 44100 or 48000 Hz Sample Rate
Mono or stereo files only
Maximum compression: 64kbps (mono) and 128kbps (stereo)
Is there anyone here that understands this who would be willing to translate it into something I might be able to understand.
What I’m ultimately wishing to do is upload background music ‘legally’ so I can use it ‘legally.’
Since I have a membership to Smule and I’m legally allowed to download these songs,
I should be able to start my own library of my favourites.
I’m sure it’s a tall task to take on but I’m hopeful.

Steps by step tutorial on how upload a Song to the Songbook

- Open Smule.com from your web browser.
- Once you have a backing track that meets the requirements (see below), click on the Upload button and select Upload a song to Smule.
