Is this a problem? Communist China buying farmland in the United States?

I don't see it really. Going to be hard to be a leading power with 85% of people dead, 90% of land contaminated by radiation.

But, there's something else to consider.

Safest Countries – Countries that Survive Nuclear war
  • 1- Iceland. Iceland is a North Atlantic island nation. ...
  • 2- Canada. Canada is a top nuclear war survivor. ...
  • 3- Australia. Australia is a leading nuclear war safety contender. ...
  • 4- Newzealand. ...
  • 5- Norway. ...
  • 6- Sweden. ...
  • 7- Greenland (Denmark) ...
  • 8- Fiji.
  • 9. Nepal
  • 10. Sri Lanka
So, who wants to move?
I seriously doubt there will ever be a nuclear war. One country can destroy another using technology, planning, and propaganda; no nukes needed.

Is this a waste of energy thinking about this?

Almost 200,000 acres of U.S. land, mostly farmland, has been bought up by the Chinese Communist Party.
Some right outside of the Laughlin Air Force base in Texas.
I think this could be a national security issue and a food supply issue in the future.
From what I understand, there are no restrictions to prevent foreign countries to buying up land in America.

Do you think I'm making too much of this? You see, I think we will one day go to war with Communist China.
There are 895.3 million acres of farmland in the U.S. 200,000 acres allegedly owned by PRC (People's Republic of China) is only 0.02% of that total. If you are looking for something to make me worried, you need to look much, much, much, much, much harder! This is not even down in the noise, its so NADA.

At a time when real estate prices have skyrocketed and made housing unaffordable for so many people, maybe there should be some restrictions on who can invest in land or perhaps what investors can do with the land. But that's not going to happen, at least not any time soon, so why worry about it? Government tends to be reactive — not proactive. Nothing will be done until it's too late.

It's not only farmland....here's a list of US companies owned by China....Amazing!!!!

MIcrosoft, Tesla, GM and so forth are publicly owned companies headquartered in the U.S. Anyone can 'own' these companies by simply buying stock in them. That said, only the largest shareholders of these firms have any say whatsoever in how these companies are actually managed and run. This power is exercised through the Board of Directors who are elected by a majority of the shareholders. PRC (People's Republic of China) does not have majority ownership in any of the firms in your list. Not even close! Your post is both entirely misleading and outright false!!

Sabre rattling? I still don't see the U.S. in an all out war with China. I could be wrong, but I don't.
I tend to agree, largely because an all out war with China would most likely mean nukes. But, remember that China’s ally Russia doubtless also harbors a major dislike of the US. Apocalypse Now? Probably not, but there is a remote possibility. I suspect China and Russia have visions of dominance over East Asia and Europe, East and West, basically the bulk of the developed world.

China has been buying out land in Asian countries for years. When we visited Cambodia and Thailand several years ago, China was buying land, building companies and only employing Chinese workers. The locals were not employed in their companies. They have a plan, and it is not going to benefit anyone but themselves.

They have fingers in the African pie too.

Was in Tanzania early 1988 and was told about how the Chinese were building the railways.......out of the goodness of their hearts?

I do.

It might not be in our lifetime but Russia and China will merge to war with the US. China will emerge as the economic leader of the world.

I'm glad you don't see this because thought from the human mind can change future events. Every thought produces an influence in the atmosphere. I hope you are right and I am wrong.
Isn't it amazing how many politicians bury their heads in the sand and refuse to face up to reality! All this liberalism is just playing into the hands of our enemies.
The invasion of Ukraine brought out just how many wealthy Russians had bought property in England. Not being racist, but Russians are European, so we don't notice them walking our streets. There is a great deal happening in Britain which should concern those in authority but they prefer to divert the public attention to trivia.

That's true. Thought does change the course of events. I hope I will be right. Think along with me and it will help perhaps. One can only do one's best.

I really don't think the Chinese government is going to try to saw off their holdings, and float them to mainland China. So, it seems the land will still stay in the US, and as long as they keep up on their property taxes, who cares.

Americans might - some day?? I'm not overly worried about this but it could become an issue one day.

Do you have a problem with the US buying in other countries?
I do have a problem, to a degree. Should we be drawing down the strategic petroleum reserve and pleading with the Saudis to hold down the price of oil when we have the proven ability to be oil independent? Sale of farmland is questionable, but should we permit the sale of strategic mining resources to foreign buyers? Lastly, the US which was once a manufacturing giant is becoming increasingly dependent on foreign manufacturing, at the cost of countless US jobs and a growing dependence on East Asia. Many lost jobs could be returned to the US with a little tinkering with import duties.

This is likely a problem that goes unnoticed. The NET U.S. investment position, which is the difference between U.S. holdings of foreign bonds, property, etc. AND foreign holdings of U.S. bonds, property, etc. now stands at -$17 trillion dollars. Which is double 5 years ago, which was double 6 years prior and double the 6 years prior to that.

Not to beat on China, but they do take USD gained from trade deficits, US based (China owned) company profits, etc. and build things like coal fired plants all over the world... such as Malawi. So the people in that region are gainfully employed and feeding their families. Who do you think they thank for these opportunities? It's not us.

We've done this to ourselves.

This was brought to light on the local evening news yesterday

.... SB147 ..a proposed state law which would ban governments, businesses + citizens of China, Iran, North Korea and Russia from buying land in Texas.

Protesters were out in force against it.
