Therein lies the true challenge in all of this. You could have a 10 year old child pointing an AK at you, running at you with a knife, or with a bomb strapped to their chest. They are there as they have been fed a poisoned ideology and because of their age and lack of mental maturity cannot differentiate between right and wrong. The ugly truth is they want you dead.

I hope I am never placed in a situation where I have to make a decision like that. I have no words to describe how I feel for those who have had to make that decision.

This is the first thread since the Covid thread where I have seen so many people riled up about which side is right and how to resolve the issues. If we as a population knew how to create peace between Israel and Palestine it would have been achieved already.

Actually, it is nice to see that people are so aware of something that is happening out of their "comfort bubbles". I just wake up every day thankful that I live in a place where I don't need to worry about sirens and bombings. I feel for both the Israeli and Palestinian people.

That's a bit unfair. The Christian lectionary selects passages from the OT and the NT. The emphasis is always on the Gospels and the Epistles and bloodthirsty passages are seldom referred to.

Unfortunately with the arrival of Islam, Jews were decidedly unpopular with powerful Muslim elements, a dislike that can be traced back to the days of Mohammad. I think the philosophy is, "an eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth". This is seen as justice in Jewish and Islamic cultures.

Also it is written in the OT book of the prophet Hosea - “For they sow the wind, and they shall reap the whirlwind.” It was a warning to the Hebrew people, but the words can be used to justify great suffering being visited on Hamas and the inhabitants of Gaza.

For us westerners to comment on Middle East conflicts without understanding the long history and the mind sets of the antagonists is to venture into deep water without ever having had a swimming lesson.

A week ago this morning there was peace. Israel was NOT preparing to bomb Gaza, Remember that.

Then barbarians crossed the Israeli border in the dark of night with murder as their plan. They crept into houses, bedrooms and baby nurseries and slaughtered the civilian occupants.

Now Israel has a choice, wipe out the nest that produces these killers or do nothing and wait for it to happen again and again and again.

Israel has given another 24 hr notice to evacuate. They are not sneaking in the dark of night, they warned to evacuate a week ago, right after the carnage, and gave the UN 24 hours notice yesterday.

Hamas and the place that shelters them chose their own path.

{sigh} someone else upset over a simple suggestion, an invitation. At the time, I'm sure most people thought the very idea of the creation of a Jewish state in the middle of the Arab world was absurd, yet it was done.

My own health is not so good, so out of concern for my well being, my son and daughter in law suggested I sell my house in Florida and move in with them several states away. Their house is large with several empty bedrooms and unused bathrooms. According to some of the folks on here, I should have been offended at that, but I wasn't. Not sure why an invitation and an offer to help is a bad idea.
