France bans all pro-Palestinian protests

Hundreds of demonstrators gathered in central Paris on Thursday, in defiance of a controversial new ban on pro-Palestinian rallies in the country.

French police and members of the gendarmerie worked to disperse the crowds with tear gas and water cannons, visuals showed.

Congress boosts security over Middle East tensions

The U.S. Capitol complex is enhancing security due to the escalating conflict between Israel and Hamas, the House and Senate's top security officials said in bulletins on Thursday.

Why it matters: The notice cites Hamas leadership's call for a global "Day of Rage" on Friday, which also has the Israeli government on high alert.

NYPD suits up, expands patrols for mass protests, possible violence as Israel-Palestinian war rages
Mayor Adams, Gov. Hochul and top NYPD brass assured New Yorkers there are no credible threats to the city or state.

“With large-scale protests planned for tomorrow, we must remain vigilant,” Adams said at a Thursday evening news conference. “New York City is the most diverse city in the world, and protecting our residents is the most sacred responsibility that we have.”

Law enforcement steps up patrols of Jewish houses of worship, businesses as calls for attacks in the U.S. intensify online

Local and federal law enforcement agencies across the U.S. are stepping up their patrols of Jewish houses of worship, Jewish-owned businesses and Israeli diplomatic buildings as calls for attacks on the Jewish community in the U.S. intensify online.

Former Hamas leader Khaled Mashal recently called for Friday to be a global day of "anger" in support of the recent Hamas attack on Israel, which has left over 1,300 Israelis dead. He said demonstrations would send a "message of rage to Zionists and to America."

Absolutely.

Here we have an open southern border. There have been reports of known terrorists being caught by border patrol and we have no idea of how many weren't caught.

Illegal immigrants from Middle East arrested at US border over past 10 days

Illegal immigrants from Middle Eastern countries have been caught and arrested by Border Patrol agents on the United States-Mexico border since the start of the month, a cause for concern in light of the Hamas terror attack in Israel, according to a Republican senator.

Sen. Steve Daines of Montana visited the Rio Grande Valley in southern Texas Wednesday to learn how people were traveling through sometimes more than a dozen countries to get to the United States and was alarmed by the number of people coming into the country, particularly those who could not be chased down.

We know that Hamas struck Israel first. Rose, you've made it very, very clear that you don't want Israel to strike back.

What is your solution, Rose? Do you expect Israel to do nothing? Should they simply accept that murderous attacks happen and they have to accept these attacks because it's OK for Hamas to kill Israelis but it's not OK for Israel to retaliate?

------------------

There are reports that in the wake of Israel's warnings to Palestinians to evacuate, Hamas is telling them to stay in place, do not leave their homes.
No, I don't expect Israel to do nothing. It's just that what is planned will be mass murder. I wish there was another way.

An Israeli soldier sifts the wreckage at the Kibbutz Beeri, the place where 270 revellers were killed by militants during the Supernova music festival on October 7.....just 6 days ago....

Can we even believe all of this has happened in just 6 days ? 😣☹️😔
It is incredible indeed. A week in which everything has changed.

Mass murder by which side, though? The one that said "evacuate for your safety, go quickly".... or the side that said "stay and be murdered so we can gain strength for our jihad?" Is that not democide if they know it's going to happen and not allow people to leave?

That's a bit unfair. The Christian lectionary selects passages from the OT and the NT. The emphasis is always on the Gospels and the Epistles and bloodthirsty passages are seldom referred to.
It’s a bit uninformed to think all preachers who call themselves Christians follow the Christian Lectionary. It might be enlightening to do a survey of sermon topics from a variety of protestant churches. My survey of 100 churches a few years ago showed the majority from the Old Testament. But St. Paul is also popular. He is somewhat male chauvinistic but he does issue a disclaimer that his words are his own and not those of Christ. The Episcopal and Lutheran churches did include the Gospels. Not sure what Lectionary you are referring to. There is a Vanderbilt Christian Lectionary also.

It is all madness. I cannot imagine any solution can now be achieved by people.
Opinion is so split everywhere.

I am a Christian and pray that mercy and humanity can prevail.

I believe the Hamas attack was to provoke Israel into over reacting, and thus bring condemnation on Israel, and enrage all Muslim nations. Yes, Israel has the right to retaliate for the savage murdering and kidnapping of it's citizens. But Israel's threat to destroy the homes of over million Arab homes, is exactly what Hamas was hoping for.

Agreed, and Hamas doesn't care about the innocents in Gaza who'll die for this aspect of their strategy. @CallMeKate labels their deaths correctly as democide.

Americans move house on average 11.7 times in their lives. (I just looked it up.) My home state is West Virginia, a beautiful but economically depressed area. When I go back to high school reunions almost everyone has come from out of state.

I can't understand people who would rather kill than move. If some group took over my city and told me they were kicking me out of my house, I would be furious, but I sure wouldn't kill anyone, or die, over it. I'd put what I could carry in a backpack and head out.

It just beggars belief doesn't it? The Palestinians are screeching that it's not possible for them to leave their homes within the 24 hours Israel has given them to get to safety before their homes are raised to the ground... ... not possible to get to safety in 24 hours ?

Did they give the Israelites 24 hours to get to safety..did they warn those innocent party goers at a peace festival with 24 hours notice.. did they warn the people in their homes who ran terrified with their newborn babies into safe rooms in their homes, and were dragged out and beheaded, and shot , that they had 24 hours to get to safety ?...

Did they even give them even 5 minutes notice..?.. of course not, Terrorists are bullies and cowards who killed innocent people without any warning at all.. typically turn and scream Foul.. when the tables are turned on them....

I did hear and see a report that showed them moving out. The highway was clogged with cars and people walking toward the southern border.

An opinion was given that about half would leave and half would stay. I was jumping around so not sure where I saw it.

yes I'm sure there will be some who will take the opportunity to leave...if they have the safety of themselves and their families in their minds.. but so many are saying they won't leave.. it's not enough time ..

One cable news show has highlighted the plight of a young Palestinian mother of two toddlers who was just visiting relatives. She has dual American citizenship and is from Union New Jersey. The newscaster, a Jew btw, is personally trying to help her as her own efforts are unsuccessful.

I also heard it said that Israel is in Gaza but they are looking for hostages and bodies and clearing known Hamas members from the border.

I tend to forget how much smaller it is there than here and how much intelligence that Israel has collected over the years. Apparently they know who a lot these people are that they are looking for and where to find them, so some things can be done without bombing.

Also Israel has dropped more flyers warning the people in Gaza.

The big pro-Hamas protests are underway, there’s a huge one in NYC.

Defiant Gazans who refused to evacuate after Israel gave them 24 hours before launching an all-out assault have claimed they would rather die than leave their homes.

While some heeded the call to leave, by Friday afternoon there was little sign of a mass exodus, despite the UN warning the area is 'fast becoming a hellhole'.

'Death is better than leaving,' said Mohammad, 20, standing in the street outside a building reduced to rubble in an Israeli air strike two days ago near the centre of Gaza.

'I was born here, and I will die here, leaving is a stigma.'

With power supplies cut and food and water in the Palestinian enclave running short after a week of retaliatory air strikes and a full Israeli blockade, the U.N. said Gaza's civilians were in an impossible situation.

'The noose around the civilian population in Gaza is tightening. How are 1.1 million people supposed to move across a densely populated warzone in less than 24 hours?' U.N. aid chief Martin Griffiths wrote on social media.

Hamas, which controls the densely populated Palestinian territory and slaughtered Israeli civilians in Saturday's attacks, vowed to fight until the last drop of blood and told residents to stay put after Israel said they should leave to escape the onslaught because Hamas 'is using you as human shields'.

I'm referring to the revised common lectionary that is used by most denominations in Australia.
