It is the Age Of Aquariums

Paxton (my former foster son) named his Comet ( a type of goldfish) Binx.

Binx lives alone now, in our new 30gal tank because the twins, Pax's siblings, asked to take their goldfish home. Theirs were "twin" orange & white Common goldfish.

Paxton doesn't yet feel secure about taking his favorite things from my house to his.

Anyway, my phone camera isn't great and neither is my eyesight, so I retook his picture like 5 times. Then I realized Binx is a blur because he's a really fast swimmer.

Best 3 out of like 5....

I bought at amazon a beautiful DVD of an aquarium, with nice music years ago and then I bought a DVD of three types of fireplaces and that too is very relaxing -you can here the crackling of the logs and they did not cost much at all.

When I am reading I often like some background noise and something to look at,occasionally while I read, that is not too distracting.

Hi @Widow of Vietnam Vet
If you have access to YouTube, you can watch some of these. Here is one for the whole day!

I had lots of aquariums and terrariums as a kid. Kept them stocked with local Florida wild things I caught, saltwater, freshwater, snakes, frogs, etc. Even some huge ants. Never bought anything from a pet store.

I still enjoy seeing them, but now they are more work than I would want, and I don't live in a place that has the variety of local wildlife for stock.

Great thread and title by the way!
Tide pools are the best!

I've had several aquariums. But before you go out and buy the biggest one you can, you should consider your environment. If you use AC for a large portion of the year, having a huge tank full of evaporating water is definitely going run up your AC bill, and it's always going to feel muggy in your home. I was always complaining about my AC, that it didn't work. Yet, when I emptied my aquarium to move it, suddenly my AC worked. That's why I got rid of my tank.
A dehumidifier helps a lot. I agree you should go into any hobby well informed, especially when it involves living things. I had fish tanks all my life and still would if I stayed in one location year round. Salt water tanks are mesmerizing, especially at night when the lights go off and you use a red filtered light to watch all the hidden creatures come out to play.

I have Koi in a backyard pond now, but they are dormant during the winter months, so it allows me some travel time.

My cousin has (or had, I don't know) an aquarium with piranhas. They were very shy. As I approached the aquarium they got frightened.
