It pays to complain

Yes, I will give polite complaints when due. The other day I unsubscribed from a streaming tv app and they asked why. I told them they didn't enlarge the closed captioning like I requested 6 mos. earlier and then told them goodbye. They sent me an email for $10.00 off if I decide to resume with them in the future and told me how to find out if they fulfill my request in the future.

I have voiced my unhappiness with many services in the past and almost always have gotten good feedback and money off on things or a free month of something.(y);)

And I often thank them when the issue has been resolved.

I think it does pay to complain. When I do I'm never nasty. Most of the time I find that I'm only dealing with the poor people hired to take care of these problems. If it is a very important issue and it hasn't been resolved I'll kick it up a notch especially after the third or forth try.

I also will thank the people for going the extra mile either by letter or online.

I have a relative who takes calls for a health insurance company. She said many times she was close to tears because of the way people talked to her.

She also told me the company gives them only a certain amount of time to help a person. Many times she took extra time to figure out the complaint only to be told by her boss that she took to long.

In regards to business, I deal with people quite often. I always want to hear from customers as most times we are not aware of the issue they are encountering. However, I will not allow anyone to abuse me.

I wish more people were like you @Ruth n Jersey :)

I lunched out today with pals and had mains and dessert and a glass of Merlot.. the mains was £12.95 roast turkey and trimmings. The meal when it arrived was not as hot as it should have been and I chose to keep schtum as I was with pals and by the time it was eaten was cold. No waitress came to our table to ask if things were okay. My dessert was ok bit was £5.65 with a drink which was £4,95. My bill was hefty.

When I paid my bill at the Bar the manager brusquely apologised and made some unsatisfactory explanation as to the main meal asked if a waitress came to out table to see if things were ok and I said no.

I stood for a few moments expecting a follow up from the manager and after a pregnant pause I said politely will receive I bit of redress to which she quite nastily said..I was about to offer you that and scowled stormed off to the till and gave me voucher for the main course with a look of annoyance. I thanked her and off I went home

Ive got a voicher for £12.95 which fir a local pub diner in England is high but will not return there as her attitude was not good. Will give it to someone else.

What would you have done inthis instance?

Last week I ordered this towel holder, from Amazon, for our bathroom and it was bent all out out shape. They told me to keep and dispose of it and sent me a new one next day.
OXO Good Grips Steady Paper Towel Holder
Amazon is GREAT when it comes to customer satisfaction. I've ordered items that I didn't like that were not returnable & they refunded me.

One of the most effective tools to get justice for consumers is "Yelp" which is a website for reviewing businesses. I've done business with companies that tried to rip me off & I have resolved issues by either posting a negative review or threatening to post a negative review.

Example: I hired a tree/landscape company to remove 3 trees & trim brush in my yard. They charged $3,000.00. The did a great job on the trees & the cleanup & said they would come back in 2 days to do the brush trimming. Since I had done business with them previously & posted an excellent review, I paid in full. (my mistake). After I paid them, the foreman wrote on my invoice "Paid in Full Pending Brush Clearance."

When they didn't show up after a week, I called & the (greedy idiotic) owner told me the brush trimming wasn't included & he wanted another $500.00. He said the foreman made a mistake when he included it in the total price. I reminded him that it was written on the contract & also told him "You can't modify a written contract with an oral addition." After arguing with him, I said, "OK, but you won't like my edited review."
I deleted my previous review & posted an updated review. Businesses get a notice from "Yelp" when a new review is posted or when a review is edited or updated. The owner called me, angry, telling me how much I was hurting his business. I said, "YOU'RE the one who's hurting your business with your greed & dishonesty."
The next morning, the foreman showed up with a crew. He said the owner is his brother-in-law & they're always fighting over business issues. He apologized for how I was treated & they completed the job. I re-posted my original review.

i dont normally complain, only because i cant be bothered,
but hubby and i once went to an italian restaurant, and ordered a bottle of red wine with our meal,
when i looked at the menu, it was75. 00 pound....😱
i would never spend that much , but i know wines in restaurants are double the price....but it was lovely .......so just by the ways, i mentioned the wine to the waiter....i said .”.oh about that wine, it was abit pricey but “............that was it, he dissappeared, with our bill...minus the red-wine on the bill 😂😂😂 but i wasnt complaining, i was gonna tell him how nice it was...🙂

TodayI went to a McDonalds near me with a pal. Ordered a Big Mac and fries and a chocolate milkshake. The Big Mac arrived and was luke warmanas was the fries. the only tasty thing was the milk shake. So I asked the staff to get me fresh Big mac and fries and it arrived and was hotter but not 100% but ate it. What's the matter with these outlets that serve warm food FHS!!(n) Not my couple of days for eating out was it?

McDonald's makes food up in advance, which is how they deliver orders quickly but also why many items aren't piping hot.

If you want food freshly made and don't mind waiting 5-10 minutes, ask for your food to be made without something. For instance, no salt on the fries or Big Mac. They'll make it up special for you. Don't ask for extra pickles, sauce, etc., because they might take a burger that's already made up and add whatever you requested.

I worked in a McD's back in my college days, so I know the tricks of the fast food trade...

I recently had cause to write a letter of complaint to my bank regarding a standing order which should have been increased then, when I rang to discuss it, after going through the whole rigmarole of the recorded message, the line went dead

Pleased to say, I’ve just received a very apologetic letter informing me the bank have credited my account with £50.00 to compensate for my inconvenience

Do you agree it pays to complain ? What are your experiences ?
imo it depends. if you complain all the time about everything then no. all you would do is end up alienating staff and making them mad. if something is that bad that it requires it then yes. do it. but just keep in mind that if you become a pest, you are less likely to receive courteous treatment.

we hadn't seen this one employee in the cafeteria for a long time. she came in the other day and i commented on not seeing her for a while. i was less than thrilled cuz she was a pita. always griping about something. every single day. i guess the former boss banned her for a while from the cafeteria. so i'm gonna go with eh...at times.

I never argue with the clerks. Politely ask for the name and address of the district manager and the regional manager. Thank them and go home. Write a factual letter noting date ,time, people encountered and purpose of the letter. Mail it. Wait.
Your complaint will be handled clearly, efficiently and professionally.

You are doing the business a favor by complaining or a better way to put it, pointing out something they should be aware of. I return items in person and by mail. If I owned a business and there was a problem I would want to know about it ASAP. I don't mind mess ups but I do mind false ads and junk products. I recently bought online a Finder Alarm you put on your phone or keys or remote, etc. 95 decibels was the advertised level of sound in the ad. The level of sound was probably 10 or barely audible. I sent them back and after about a month my card was credited.

sometimes management doesn't really care though dog. they may act like they do in front of a customer but, behind closed doors...they really don't give a crap.

I think it does good to stand up for yourself. I have complained to companies before and received compensation, too. So, it is worth it IMO.
