It seems to work for me

I had the flu once as a teenager in the years before vaccinations were made available to me, and it was nasty stuff; I almost passed out at one point. Entering the work force in a profession where I had lots of contact with the public, my employer made low-cost flu shots available to us. I availed myself of them, and have annually continued the practice. For myself it was a sensible precaution and one which enabled me to fend off flu despite frequent exposure. I hate needles, by the way, but hate illness more...

Flu jabs are free for the over 65s here in the UK and also for younger people with health problems.

How would you explain people (like myself) who never had a flu shot & haven't had the flu for 38 years?
Lucky. Better health practices (washing hands, etc.). You get proper sleep. Better immune system. Not around many people so have relatively limited exposure. Not much flu where you live or travel. There are all kinds of reasons (some) people don't get the flu.
I don't know your health status, but as a generalization, the majority of boomers are overweight if not obese. Overweight people have compromised immune systems, tend to get sick more often, tend to be sick longer because. Due to obesity, many seniors have health issues they caused by their bad habits which allow them to get the flu more easily than others. Of course, there are always exceptions.

I worked for many years in places that didn't offer sick leave. As a result, many people came to work sick - including some with the flu, who spent the whole day with their heads on their desks. They couldn't afford to lose a day's pay. They used my phone, etc. Our office was small & they coughed & sneezed near me constantly.
I don't sleep well at all - maybe 5-6 hours/night due to severe tinnitus & blood sugar swings.
As for my immune system, well, we're told that people with compromised immune systems--like diabetics-- (like myself) should always get a flu shot. My sister who is also diabetic stopped getting flu shots after being sick for two weeks after each one. She told her doctor, "Don't even suggest a flu shot ever again."
It's possible that people with pre-existing conditions should not get a flu shot because it adds one more tax on their immune system.

But...whoever feels that it helps, go for it. Confidence is half the battle...

When I feel I am coming down with a cold... A Hot Toddy works wonders. In a cup.. mix water, a shot of hennessy (or whiskey of your choice), honey, lemon juice.. heat in the microwave. Sip, Rest and Relax and you will be in sleep land. I have passed this on to family members and they call me when they need the recipe again. It works. Have not had a cold in years.

The last time I had flu was in 2001 and I NEVER get a flu shot! The only flu shot I've ever had was in 1976. It was when swine flu was a thing. I went to school with people who got the swine flu shot and got so sick they nearly died. I got a regular flu shot that year.
I will never get a flu shot again. Most people who die of "Flu" actually die of pneumonia.
Same here. I got a flu shot one time years ago and that was enough for me... I got sooo sick. I will stick with my Hot Toddy if I feel I am catching a cold... it works wonderfully :ROFLMAO:

Had the actual flu one time many years ago and thought I was going to die! Get the shot now for sure since I have late effects CVA and my immune system is compromised. PCP and Specialist say its needed in my case. Different for other folks. You have to know your body and take charge of your own health. People these days call everything the "flu". Most are respiratory issues. If you get the real flu, you will know it!!

I've been lucky. Haven't had the flu for thirty years. I do get flu shots every year but they won't protect you from the newest strains. And yes, washing your hands is a great prevention, but something I usually forget to do.
