60-40 watt bulbs GONE FOREVER.
As of January 1st these type bulbs will no longer be made in the US or be imported.
BUT you can still buy those until the stores run out of them and quite a few people are now hoarding these bulbs. WHY????

Because the light they give off is of a much more pleasing color temperature than those horrid fluorescent replacements. You don't get eye strain and the attendant headaches from the 40W and 60W bulbs, but you do from the fluorescents.

Also, despite the claims of longer life, the initial purchase price is much higher. Once again we are being roped into buying something essential at higher prices due to fraudulent claims.

Ditto to what Phil says....the light isn't as good, imo, and they don't last as long, despite what they say. We need to find one for the garage door opener, as it comes on right away with the old bulbs. DH might have some stashed away here somewhere, tho.

So nice we have someone to 'watch over us' poor stupid little sheep.

We've been stocking up on these for quite some time now. I detest those CFL bulbs, but the worst part about it is that they are dangerous if you break them. I was unaware of this until after a lamp got knocked over and the CFL broke. I cleaned it up as I would a regular bulb with a broom and dustpan, only to find out that because of the mercury in them you practically need a HAZMAT team to handle it.

Here is some information on the bulbs, but a lot of what is in the article seems to contradict it's self as a myth: http://www.weather.com/news/science/environment/5-myths-about-light-bulb-ban-20131218

I totally forgot that aspect of it - ugh! :cower: Thanks for the reminder!

That article claims that 3-way bulbs will still be available, so after the supply of 40W and 60W bulbs gives out hopefully we can still purchase a 3-way.

I bought a bunch of them awhile back when they were on sale at Walmart, all 60W. They give immediate light when needed, not like the CFLs. If you break one you don't have to get a HazMat crew out to clean up the mess, not like the CFLs (as OG mentioned). The regular incandescent bulbs are much less costly, not like the CFLs. The regular bulbs burn cooler, especially in sockets the face sideways or downward, not like the CFLs. The regular incandescent bulbs last almost as long as the new, dimmer, hotter, dangerous bulbs...hmmm, now why would I want the CFLs?? :D

Thanks for the reminder, I'll be out tomorrow seeing if there's any more available on the shelves.

And I thought we were were welded to America's fads! Seems we've been leading the way up garden path instead. We went this road to lunacy years ago. I have a box of of hoarded incandescent bulbs too. LEDs are a far better option but came too late to save us from the scourge of the 'energy saving' CFLs. What a crock! They inflict far greater impact on the sacrosanct environment than any incand. ever did. Greenacy rools!

So much the 'long life' crap, they've been blowing faster than the old ones did. Only last a few months some of them. They give a horrible light ambiance and I hate... detest... them!

Anyway if we really are in the Greenacy and PC crusading lead then you can look forward to plain packaged cigarettes next, for your own good! The UK have fallen for that one now too. Then when that's imposed they'll start in on banning booze ads. There goes the Superbowl Clydesdales folks. You might be the 'land of the free' but like us, you're only free to do as you're told by the 'Nannies.'

We threw our Nannies out way too late! You too??

I bought a bunch of the regular bulbs a while ago. For one thing the new ones won't work if you have a dimmer switch on the light. And, that is why I am "hoarding" those bulbs, LOL
