It's going to soon be the Third Decade of the 21st Century, how really 'with it' are you?

Remember when we were teens, and there was family gathering. Remember how aghast you were when you found out the adults didn't know the Beatles names? Remember rolling your eyes, when they said things like, " Now, Lawrence Welk. That's good music". And none of them owned a transistor. And all the movie stars they talked about were dead. Well, it's going to soon be the Third Decade of the 21st Century, how really 'with it' are you? How tuned into the pop culture of today?

With the exception of a handful of singers Don't ask me about any pop group /singer/actor or film after about 2000... :D

Don't ask me what the new ''hip'' Urban language is ..like the word Woke or Goat or any word they've taken from the English dictionary and added a new meaning to..I have no idea!!

OMG!!! I haven't just turned into my parents, I've turned into my grandparents. I had to google "Woke" and "Goat". All those guests on the talk shows-I've never heard of them. I even watch the news!!! I know this is weird, but this is happening to me. The back side of my pants won't pull up-there's too much backside, while the front can actually pulls up to touch my chest.

I cant remember my mum neve ever discussing music at all ' my dad liked it in later years '
I never spoke to them about my 45s I bought on a weekend I just played them 'strange when u think I come from a large family ..I remember my older sisters going to see johnny ray who ever he was ….in LONDON venue somewhere ..:p

I've pretty much stopped trying to communicate with people that are not in my generation. Most of the time a conversation to them means just having to listen to what they are trying to say. Or worse, texting, Instagram, Snap Chat or whatever. Never mind the "new" words.

The only "good" music was written and sung in the 60's and 70's, so that's about all I listen to. The new TV shows mostly suck and most of the movies are garbage. So I am definitely my grandparents now.

But I do try to stay in date with electronics!

I'm not "with it at all" and pretty sure I don't want to be. I was able to keep up with my kids into adulthood but am completely lost with the Grand kids. Luckily they think Oma is a funny, interesting old lady who they love. I've got two kids who help me navigate through this complicated world we live in. I'll take the Lawrence Welk era any day.

I'm totally out of it. I don't even know the names of most of today's pop singers, with just a few exceptions. And I can't name any of the songs. Slang expressions? Not a clue. And just this morning, I was looking up stuff about online password managers, and the information that the site doesn't generate an icon, the tray has to be used, left me completely stumped.

(I had to google "tray computer" and finally learned that the tray is that strip across the bottom of the screen with some frequently used icons, the clock, etc. So now I know.)

Hubby and I are definitely NOT with it at all...but don't really care, either. We prefer music from 50's, 60's, and 70's. Hubby was born in 1940 and I was born in 1946 so that was our "growing up" music. When his son, who's going to be 50 next month, and his daughter, who's 45, come on Sundays to have dinner and a rousing game of Chicken Foot, they are subjected to 70's music from the music channel on our TV. They don't really mind...haha.

My 12 y.o. granddaughter never heard of the Beatles...it took me by surprise cuz I'm thinking every living soul on this planet knows who they are....definitely had a reality check moment realizing I am old!
I've always listened to the latest hits of this generation on the radio except for country music...I like alot of them still...and viewing the pop stars on tv....they look like they're from another planet, worse than our 60's and 70's bands, lol...

My grown kids help me navigate onliine issues and research while they're talking too fast and saying,
'mom, just do this, just do that....I hate that word 'just', ugh....I'm doomed if I ever say 'wait, let me write that down'....that's where they lose their patience :(

(I had to google "tray computer" and finally learned that the tray is that strip across the bottom of the screen with some frequently used icons, the clock, etc. So now I know.)

Whenever I get directions on what do to add, modify or install that I don't understand, I just type in a question on the search engine and sort through the hits/directions until I find something that works. It's a bit like having an IT guy helping me.

I'm not with it at all. I think that there is a fine line between music and noise and most modern music falls on the noise side. As for the use of our modern electronic marvels - useful, great convenience but too many changes and updates that are designed to create more sales rather than improve the product. Most people live with their nose stuck in a computer or inches from their phone. Reading a good book is no longer in fashion. Nor is intelligent, thoughtful conversation..

Yep. Confirmed old fuddy-duddy here

I learned about Billie Eilish today. Could have learned about her on Saturday, as she was on 'SNL' but I fell asleep before she came on.

Even though I'm not into the music of some of the singers who now occupy the top of Billboard Charts,I do recognize their names e.g Ariana Grande,Taylor Swift,Ed Sheeran,Shawn Mendes.I do like Ed Sheeran haven't bought any of his CD's yet

Try to relax and enjoy the ride.

I don't listen to music unless we are in the car going for a very long ride....My husband has the older goodies music...Mostly 60's 70's
in our car....
I have no idea what kind of music is going on, now a days....Probably when my grandson get's married next year I will be dancing to the
music.… What ever it will be!!!!!

You are all right. Wow, there are now kids in college who were not even born yet in 2000. Let that sink in a while. Those kids are going to be our age and say "Yep, I was born at the turn of the century".
Back to the OP, though. There was a time when I used to try and keep up, but the more I tried, the further behind I got. So I gave up.
Have any of you used a variation of the phrase "Kids these days"? I did almost tell some kids to get off my lawn this summer. I bit my tongue.
As for music, forget it. I knows nothing. I just thought now that our music of the 60's and 70's is the equivalent to put parents music of the 40s and 50s.
Wow.
