It's probably time to say my goodbyes.

You have to do what's best for oyu.... of course..and I understand your sentiment...

I've been here 12 years.. and still I'm taken aback by the ttitdes of some...altho' I've learned to reign in my responses most of the time

What irritates me is that regardless of what I say , if it sounds like it's even the slightest negativity towards the US there will always be someone..or more than one SHOUTING.. that I'm Anti-American...

We British.. Australians, Canadians.. we can all take slight critisims of our countries/leaders.. people...... without losing our chit... Americans seem unable to do that unless it's one merican to another..... ... and much as I like the majority of them as people..that's a huge flaw IMO
This from the woman who got defensive about her country because I said my husband wanted to find an air conditioner for my English boyfriend. 😅

You know what else is a huge flaw, Holly? Saying insulting, mocking ("mercian") things about Americans on an American dominated site. Your comment is rude and classless.

I joined this forum despite the fact that it's USA based and dominated.
I have inherited some intergenerational bias against the USA from my parents who were WW2 veterans. I'm also finding it hard to conceal my contempt for USA as a nation.
I expect to get banned at some stage, but I'll share a comment from my mother who served in the army of occupation in Japan from 1945 - 1947. The Americans are individually charming but not so collectively.

I've been banned several times for similar reasons with each one being for a longer time. I would not be surprised if the next time it was permanent. But until then I plan to hang in there. I hope you will too.

I have been much less active lately and calling it my "break". Don't paint all of us with the same brush and keep your options open. The pendulum will continue to swing.

You've just proved my point...well done !

Some of the older generation used to say "People should communicate like human beings".. sometimes they'd add "People should communicate like civilized human beings"..
I think at least that much should be expected of senior citizens..

(P.S. this is not directed at anyone who posted in this thread, just a general topic)

I'm sure of it.

Problem is, the uncivil are intrinsically the loudest. They get more attention and more publicity.
Agree and on both sides imo. If there really are sides. As far as they are concerned.

Imo they are all pretty much the same, they try to divide and conquer us and then go to dinner together.

By all means find a forum in your own perfect country.

I’m getting really tired of having to go along with every whim. It feels like no matter what, I’m always the one expected to adjust, agree, or accommodate without any real consideration in return. It’s exhausting.

Wow. I am amazed at the hostility that is heard in a quiet forum such as this. I understand the concept of avoiding politics, and I would add that religion and national origin should be included in that bucket. I don't expect everyone to agree with my opinions and I'm the first to admit that I have some biased viewpoints. It seems to me that makes for a better dialogue as long as everyone remains civil.

Personally when I encounter extreme points of view either positive or negative I tend to drift away. I've learned that in a cyber conversation some folks will push a point over the line when they would never do so in a face to face conversation. Such as it is.

Now this is interesting, hollydolly. I thought we were so used to our country being trashed, we hardly noticed it and even agreed with, some of the criticism, that it just rolled off our backs like nothing. Guess I was wrong.😯

Well, there are lots of times that I disagree with people, not only about politics (although no politics are allowed here), but about other stuff. Sometimes I want to yell at people here and say how can you say that? On the other hand, I have posted stuff and people totally disagreed with me. But then, there are many times when I totally agree with people and people here totally agree with me here too as well. As people say, it is up to you, but nowhere will you find total agreement about anything in any forum, that's life in general.

I understand why you feel as you do and I'm an American! However, perhaps you haven't noticed that a lot of our members are not in/from the U.S. A significant number of our members hail from the U.K., Australia and Canada and perhaps other non-U.S. countries that I'm not aware of. I hope you'll decide to stick around. If not, I wish you the best.

@Medusa , you really need to calm down, I'm sure that @hollydolly never ever says anything nasty.

@Medusa , you really need to calm down,

If you had said that to me I would arc up and tell you to get stuffed. Such arrogance is inflammatory and along with racism and bigotry is exactly what I will continue to call out.
I'll be the judge of what I need and if I don't know then I'll seek professional advice. Free advice is worth exactly what you paid for it.

EDIT: Having read Medusa's post, I feel that she was being precious but I stand by the comment above.

If by the age I would guess most are here including myself from minimum to maximum, if we haven't learned that we all have our own thoughts...

Even those with a significant other some may think a soulmate, sure they can know a lot of things about you but they very definitely don't know every thought that enters one's head...

NOT even someone who knows us that well...

Imo if people can't discuss, then what's left?

I don't know members well so there may be some that try to instigate, I have no idea...

I think it's sad if anyone feels the need to though. And have no idea who is who.

But those who can't discuss or who come down on those that differ, well... Again that's sad, that anyone has lived their entire life or a lot of it and feels the need to go at others.

Again I don't know who does, and who doesn't. I'll just likely stick to food, etc. topics if it is some big issue.

I've found pretty consistently that people from all countries on this forum are ok criticizing their own countries, but take some offense when those comments are made by others.

Not much different from people feeling free to say one of their kids or siblings is a pain, but if they hear someone else say it... well, they'll defend their kin to the death.
