Another long standing question is should the milk go into the cup before the tea is poured or after. 🤔

I was told that the custom of adding milk to the empty cup helped to prevent cracking inferior pottery cups in the days before central heating was common in homes. When high quality bone china was introduced the custom was no longer necessary and adding the milk after the tea signaled that the hostess had quality teacups for her guests. 😉

They told her to stop drinking coffee & start tea because of her goiter problem. Not sure if the coffee really contributed to the problem or not or if they even knew it then or just thought it did.
my apologies i misread the post and yes after doing a search it says coffee can aggravate the thyroid.

Queen Elizabeth’s Favorite Cake: Chocolate Biscuit Cake – Chef Darren McGrady | The Royal Chef

I’m not sure how much of this story is true and how much is fiction from Chef Darren McGrady.

This cake was supposedly the first thing that a young chef was allowed to make specifically for Queen Elizabeth’s afternoon tea.

When the tea things were brought back to the kitchen only one sliver thin slice of the cake had been removed and the young chef was crushed.

All of the chefs gathered round and sampled the leftover cake to see what might have been wrong with it, they finished the cake.

The next day The Queen was leaving Buckingham palace and asked that the leftover cake be packed to go with her.

The chefs all went into panic mode and had the young chef create a new duplicate cake, they all stood nervously while one tiny sliver was removed so it resembled the original.

When we were remodeling years ago we would bring thermoses of hot tea Chinese tea and when it was like 95° and it would cool us off better than cold drinks would cool us off and that's the way we stayed cool and it does give you a little pick me up good black Chinese tea has enough caffeine to keep you going! :)
