What did you find yourself doing that made you think 'I've turned into my parents?'

I found myself moaning at my teenage nephew about the music he was listening to!

I can remember the first time I opened my mouth and my mother's voice came out. I was saying things to my daughter that I SWORE I'd never say.....not bad things, mind you, but the usual mother stuff. i.e.:

We'd say: "THAT'S NOT FAIR!!!!" She'd say: "Of course it's not fair, it's life!"
We'd say: "I HATE YOU!!!" (well, my younger sisters said that, I wouldn't have dared). She'd say: "I'm not running a popularity contest here!"
We'd say: "I WISH YOU WEREN'T MY MOTHER!!! (once again, I wouldn't have gotten by with that). She'd say: "It's not an elected position. You don't get a choice in the matter."

So, what do I do? I say all the same things....many years later. Mirror, mirror on the wall....I am my mother, after all.

I've definitely turned into my mother. When I was younger, I was always puzzled that my mother wasn't more outgoing and preferred to stay home. She was friendly enough, but basically a loner. Now I'm the exact same way. I find that I am more like her with each passing day, in many ways. (And I have her hands, too!)

Not that I've turned into my mother, but sometimes I feel that she's looking out of my eyes and feeling things through me. I've heard the same thing from people who have lost someone close to them. I don't mean that you become possessed or something, but memories of a person and their physical self can still be strong for a very long time if not for always.

So many things. Turn on the light so you can see. Don't you want to bring a sweater in case you get cold? It's to heavy to lift, you will get a hernia. Don't sit on the side of the bed you will ruin the mattress, use a chair. These are just a few,my Mom had hundreds and most I've used on my kids.

My father died when I was very young, but still have my mother, and it would be a blessing if I could be more like her.

I haven't turned into either one of my parents.

But I have turned into the grouchy old retired dude that lived next door to us when I was a kid.

Too many examples to list but.........Each day I see more & more of both my parents displaying in my day to day actions.

And to repeat what someone else said.......That's not a bad thing.
