Jail time for Jussie Smollett?

Jussie Smollett has been found guilty on multiple counts of disorderly conduct. He faces sentencing in January. The question is whether he should spend time in prison or get off with community service and probation.

I'm not sure prison serves any purpose in this case, although the fact that Smollett lied like crazy through his own testimony makes me want to see something a little more severe than community service.

I've been skimming the news a little for this trial and Josh Duggar's trial the last few days. Both were found guilty and in both cases I hope the judges consider the wider implications of their respective behaviors when sentencing.

In Duggar's case, I hope a harsh sentence will take away at least some of the market for the horrific child porn he purchased. If it calls attention to the often dark side of religious fundamentalism, then so much the better.

In Smollett's case, I hope a harsh sentence will call attention to how his publicity stunt diluted the impact of hate crimes. His case will stick in the minds of people who are predisposed to downplay the seriousness of hate crimes.

One things for sure....his Stupidity will likely end his "acting" career. I think he should have to pay a huge sum for all the expenses the police and courts had to endure for his Lies. A couple of years in jail would also be justified.
He will be ordered to pay Restitution as part of his sentence, no question. If say, the Judge does not order it, the appropriate agency will sue.

This drama queen/liar/criminal will never see jail, even though he should. Even worse criminals than him don't see prison.
He'll probably be fined & put on probation & maybe have to wear an ankle bracelet.

He will never get what he has done. I can't diagnose this individual in any way. But being raised by a borderline parent, there is something familiar here. He's the victim no matter what. I also know that the personality disorders do not process real events like people without them do. Again, can't diagnose, but something is wrong here.

His entourage, family/friends/whoever are not doing him any good. He is clearly surrounded by enablers. I can't freaking stand him. Every time I see him the word "punk" just comes to mind. I'm so glad he was found guilty. But don't worry, he's the real victim here.

No doubt, it is unlikely any crime he was convicted of carries a Mandatory sentence.

I'm sorry, @oldpeculier, but if I only receive a link to read, homework for me, I generally ignore it. Spit it out man! LOL 😄
According to the link Jussie Smollett was previously charged with providing false information to police in 2007.

Further, the article claims JS was charged with DUI and driving without a license. He told police his name was Jake Smollett, who is actually his younger brother and signed Jake's name on the promise to appear in court.

Smollett was charged with providing false information to police, DUI, and driving without a valid license.
He pled no contest and completed a alcohol education program.

I apologize for not including a summary of my posted link.

I think the biggest travesty is that he mitigated real hate crimes. Should he receive time for that? Yes. Will he receive time for that? Probably not. He will probably receive house arrest and community service because of his status as an actor. Hopefully his career is over, and that is the best possible outcome.

I personally would like to see all the bandwagon jumpers who without any investigation bought that story hook line and sinker come out and admit they were taken in or apologize for promoting his BS

Robin Roberts and her tears for him come to mind i wonder if she even feels foolish for falling for his story .... and the promoting it...
most just pretend they had not jumped on the twitter bandwagon asking for Justice for Jussie.

I had to 'google' this turkey to jog my memory about what he did. Whatever the judge deems is an appropriate punishment, will be okay with me. He's going to live with those false accusations the rest of his life. Let this upcoming 'actor' go back to where you have to 'google' him out of obscurity.

He will probably use his conviction to "support" his B.S. claim of racism: "Look how they railroaded another black person."

Sad that we have racial hoaxes in the USA just about every day. Example:

‘The Way She Was Stalling’: Woman Falsely Accuses Black Man of Stealing Her Phone Until It Rings In Her Purse, Thanks to a Store Clerk (atlantablackstar.com)

Woman caught on video accusing Black man of stealing her phone when it was in her purse. Dozens of cases like this happen periodically in the USA but are usually dismissed by cops and courts.

What is the old expression.."All men are created equal..although some more equal than others".

If you haven't watched it, Dave Chappelle Netflix is a joke on Smollett is very funny. Dave Chappelle got it in 2019. I won't link it because of the profanity and he uses the n word. It's worth a watch however.

compare Ashley Todd case: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ashley_Todd_mugging_hoax

Remember the Duke lacrosse team hoax?

Or the hoax committed by a white woman at Sacred Heart U against innocent black men. Unlike Duke who came from wealthy white families, those black guys came from poor families, lost their scholarships, and (so far as I know) did not return to college. Their football careers destroyed forever with one suffering PTSD.
