James Darren, passed at 88

His Aunt lived a few blocks away from my house growing up. She was related to my mother's family through marriage.
I remember going to her house when The Time Tunnel was airing to play with her son.
I never met him but would have liked to. The son told me that he would tell stories about what it was like making the Time Tunnel.

All that I remember about him was that he tried to make it into the music business and did have a few hit songs, but then just kind of faded away from music and took up Directing.

I think he was a man who frequently reinvented himself and was open to new avenues. He had a brief early marriage (1955-58) and remarried in 1960, remaining with her until he died, so a 64 year run. Impressive, particularly for someone in show business.

It sure is. He wasn’t real popular with the kids with his music, but his song, “Goodbye Cruel World” may have been in the top 10. Not positive about that. The song “Her Royal Majesty” was also a hit.

The beach movies were popular in his era, but watching Frankie, Annette and Darren never interested me. They were more for the girls.
Tab Hunter and Fabian I also remember.

That's a real blast from the past. Kind of liked his Bohemian style of music. Don't recall his movies being block busters on my list.
