Job Titles That No Longer Exist

I was trying to catch up with paper work and filing yesterday, when my friends daughter visited. I mentioned how much paper work there is involved in being a pensioner and that I really needed a Girl Friday.

She gave me a strange look and I realised that she had no idea what I meant. She did not say so, but I think she thought that I wanted a call girl, so I had to explain what a Girl Friday was.

Made me think how many other job descriptions have changed in fairly recent times.

Secretaries seem to have morphed into Administrators.

Typists as such are extinct.

My job was Draughtsman which is all but extinct.

Engineering jobs like Turner, Fitter are not common.

Anybody think of any more?

Stewardess is now called a Flight Attendant.
Co-Pilot is now called a First Officer

A friend of mine was a Time Keeper in an industry that made bombs, but that job and title has been done away with.

Is there still TV repairmen ?..remember if your tv went wrong the repairman would come to the house and fix it or leave another one in it's place and take the other for repair ?

What about phone operators.. ? the ones we would call to ask for an area code or a phone number ?

Are there still haberdashers?
there are... most of the ones that had their own drapery stores here were swallowed up within the larger department stores...so they have a haberdashery department within the store..however if I go to certain areas of the Uk.. including many parts of London , where there's a majority Indian/Asian community... their haberdashery shops are everywhere, they buy most of their own material to make their clothes..
