Journalist Open Letters: Over 1500 US journalists have signed an open letter protesting Western media bias in reporting on Israel-Palestine, criticizing the dehumanization of Palestinians and the lack of historical context in coverage.
Media Ethics and Accountability: The article emphasizes the importance of fair, accurate, and unbiased journalism, highlighting the responsibility of media to foster understanding without exacerbating tensions or perpetuating biased narratives.
Misinformation and Language Use: It discusses instances of misinformation spread by media and the biased language used to report on the conflict, which often dehumanizes Palestinians and portrays Israeli suffering more prominently.
Interviewee Treatment: The piece critiques the media’s treatment of Palestinian interviewees, often pressuring them to condemn Hamas, while Israeli interviewees are not subjected to similar scrutiny regarding their government’s actions.

The article calls for a more ethical and balanced approach to journalism, especially in conflict reporting.

We all should be concerned that the news that is being reported is factual. The only way to have this happen is to pressure the media business to be truthful, and not lie. The justifications for bending the truth are usually self-serving, and a major cause of creating angry divisions between people/s.

Why Journalists are Speaking out Against Western Media Bias in Reporting on Israel-Palestine

I agree. If 5 bodies were found in a bombed out building, they were all "Arab terrorists". Some news discussion channels have not found an Arab, who wasn't a 'terrorist'. I don't think the media acknowledges that the Arabs may have a legitimate cause. Of course, I'm not speaking of Hamas, but to brand anyone, who is not an Israeli as a "terrorist' is bias.

I guess my suspicious mind questions just how many journalists there are these days. It seems to me that there platforms calling themselves journalist when in fact they on focus on one point of view ignoring the concept of being non-biased. It not only takes some courage to put aside bias, unfortunately it comes down to putting aside a career and being silenced or shouted down.

You’re right that putting aside bias requires courage. Journalists who challenge prevailing narratives risk backlash. Some choose to prioritize truth over career stability, while others conform to avoid professional repercussions.

Well.....it helps to know your history and be able to put matters into context. There's a reason why most Arab states decline to allow Palestinians to emigrate into their countries. Check out the experiences and subsequent actions taken by both Egypt and Jordan towards Palestinians in Gaza.

The Berlin Wall looks like paper mache compared to Jordan's barriers against the Palestinians.

My parents would say those tribes have been fighting for thousands of years. Kind of looks like Mom and Dad were right.

Here in Germany the most mass media are pro Palestine and anti Israel and such is the left government. Only the so-called far-right opposition party, the AfD, is pro Israel.

That is odd. The history is complex...
After World War II and the Holocaust, Germany felt immense guilt and responsibility. The horrors of the Holocaust led to an unwavering commitment to support the establishment and security of the State of Israel. This moral imperative remains deeply ingrained in Germany’s national consciousness.

Germany’s recent crackdown on pro-Palestinian events reflects a broader political culture. The country stigmatizes left-wing radicalism while sometimes indulging the far right. The anti-Palestinian witch hunt is deeply rooted in this context.

Do you think public opinion has switched allegiance?

how can we as individuals measure public opinion - talking over the garden fence? - having a yarn at the local bar ? - following our favourite news channel and believing them to be unbiased? - the Israelis are now about to "invade" Rafah and the world watches on or perhaps no longer does ? - have we just all grown tired of this war that doesn't seem to belong to us but is happening somewhere in the middle east? - there are always wrongs on both sides

- but if you measure the shear destruction and loss of lives its gotta be weighted heavily on the Arab side and still the world watches on in disbelief?? Is this how humanity still behaves in the 21st century when the rest of us are warm and safe in our beds??

Everything today is all about money @davey. Only the money class matters. Hamas are billionaires. They can stop this any time. They won't.

Everything was always about the monied class. What they want has always been the path.

Left-wing radicalism and even extremism isn't stigmatized anymore, on the contrary. The chairwoman of the Socialist Party SPD Saskia Esken once wrote on Twitter "58 and Antifa. Of course".

The chancellor Scholz is also a member of the SPD. And the Green Party which is part of the government too, is the most anti Israel party.

Meanwhile attacks on Jewish students at German universities are common. The commitment to support the security of the state Israel as a result of the horrible Holocaust was made under the conservative government of the CDU (Christian Democratic Union).

Merkel, who was socialized in the German "Democratic" Republic, was the Trojan Horse in the CDU and made of the former conservative party a left-wing party. In the end Germany now has only one conservative opposition, which is the AfD.
For this reason the AfD is fiercely fought by all other parties.

There are lots of journalists who go to these places and talk to the folks on the ground there when allowed in. Abby Martin is a serious and a good journalist who has been to Gaza several times in the past, has also been to Venezuela when Canada and America were trying to force a change of government, openly criticized Russia when they took Crimea, even though she had a show on RT America (which she subsequently quit live on air, after the critique) and she has a multitude of other credits to her name. I think she has a program these days called The Empire Files.

In case you're curious about her, you can read up on her credentials here. Abby Martin - Wikipedia. She's a pretty impressive woman. Definitely a real journalist.

Actually, Jordan which has a Jordanian population of about 11 million, already has 2 million Palestinian refugees in exile, and thousands of them have no actually citizenship anywhere because they were born in Jordan in refugee camps. Might explain why they don't want more to come. Also, Egypt already has about 457,000 Palestinian refugees since April 2023 according to one source I came across. And Egypt has been instrumental in setting up some of the refugee camps in Gaza, in Rafah and Khan Younis. So they aren't really all that hostile to Palestinians.

just been reading some Jewish/Arabic history which I'll cite below going back of course to biblical times. My most recent sources is rather interesting and comes from an encyclopedia of Jewish women? - some of us may have briefly read about Abraham and his barren wife who urged him to sleep with her Egyptian maid to produce at least one son? This son was named Ishmael and supposedly became the leader of the Arabs? We do know that the ancient Jews were quite fastidious at keeping records for eons and eons. In comparison the bible keeps it short ; sharp and simple but read on and get all the real goss from:
