Junk Mail Contest

@Jules He was making donations. Mostly small ones and I have read this is the worst thing you can do. They get some money, but not a lot. Now they have your info and they sell your info to others. And more and more roll in. I don't know if he is still making donations but while he was in the hospital and rehab, I dealt with all this. Such a waste. I was so mad about it. Since he's hearing impaired and had been isolated by my deceased mother, I guess it was something for him to do and communication. I would not have cared if he had a dozen magazine subscriptions rolling in. That would make sense and give him something in the mail, but these solicitations were awful.
 

My mom did the same thing. She'd send a dollar to all sorts of dubious charities and in return, they'd bug her for years. *

On a lighter note, I saw a cute meme the other day that showed Santa at his mailbox: "Junk mail, junk mail, junk mail, solicitation, junk mail, bill, bill, junk mail.....HEY! A LETTER TO *ME*!!!!"

We always do that, in fact, we cross out the address on the envelope and write: "Not known at this address," then post it back. Most times this works but there's one company that my wife bought a silver wedding gift from, it was a vintage inspired wrist watch. The company that sells such watches has no compunction, has no common sense, is determined to get a further sale, by bombarding her with advertising junk mail.
We went silver thirty years ago.

I have made a deal with my Canada Post mail carrier. We have 2 mail boxes on our porch. One for things that are actually addressed to us, and the other one for flyers and junk. He has to deliver the mail and the junk mail, per his job description with Canada Post, but he also is OK with putting the junk in a different box. At the end of each week I take the junk paper out to the recycling bin, and the city waste management truck empties it into their compactor bin. I make sure our steps leading up to the porch are kept clear of ice or snow every day of his work week, for his safety. He is getting close to retirement age, so he sure does not need a fall injury. I do hope you give him a christmas gift or gift card. He does not have to sort that for you, it is not a part of his job. He is kind, hardworking and helpful. He does extra work to make you happy.

My husband was with the USPS, he did many things for the clients on his rural route. He took mail to the door instead of in the box at the road,
he took garbage cans to the street and back up the next day. He checked if something did not seem right. Sometimes he took 5 minutes just to visit. He was taught from an early age to respect, honor and help older people anyway he could. That carried over to his job as a mailman. He cared about the older generation he served, we all have older relatives that need help or extra attention, that should include all people.

Another thing to up date, the rural carriers of the USPS do make or lose money depending on the volume of mail they deliver. They have what is called the mail count. For a few weeks every year or two the mail is counted on every route. First class mail, parcels and junk mail are counted. If high the carrier may get an increase or if low they may get less for thier route.

That got me removed from several mailing list. Mainly charities where I made a one-time memorial donation
