Prosecutors dropped all charges against "Empire" actor Jussie Smollett, despite acknowledging that Smollett fabricated a street attack on himself, in order to focus resources on violent crimes, Cook County first assistant state attorney Joe Magats said in an interview Tuesday with ABC Chicago station WLS.
In addition, since Smollett had no prior felony background, no history of violence and was charged with felony disorderly conduct, a "low-level felony," Magats felt that the case could be resolved by an "alternative disposition" that included the actor performing community service and forfeiting the remainder of his $10,000 bond to Cook County. Prosecutors also asked a judge to immediately seal the case.

I agree, it sounds like some sort of 'fix' / special treatment......But I'm getting to the point that I just don't care anymore..........<shrug>

Maximum stupidity on his part. He could have looked forward to a lucrative career in acting, and now, it's doubtful that he will ever get another good acting role. His role in Empire will probably be his last, and he will probably blow through his million dollars, and wind up broke and addicted to drugs.

Disgusting miscarriage of justice. For once, I actually agree with Rahm Emanuel. And I'd REALLY like to know where that judge gets off sealing the documents. So much corruption.

This reminds me of another miscarriage of justice...Let me think...Oh yea, O.J. Simpson. As for this clown, apparently he "worked" for some outfit run by Jesse Jackson who , it seems, is good friends with many of the Chicago officials who...Oh, never mind.....

Soooo, you reach back 24 years and drag up OJ Simpson. The prosecution didn't drop charges against him, he was acquitted. So was George Zimmerman. There have also been a lot of cases where police officers have murdered unarmed people and no charges were filed.

Jussie Smollett wasn't accused of murder.

Not sure what Jesse Jackson has to do with it.

Oh, never mind indeed.

I agree too. I have no trust in the justice system at all, too much corruption behind the scenes. I'd like to see what would have happened if an average (poor) citizen would have pulled a stunt like that, completely different outcome I'm sure. Smollette should be ashamed and apologize in the least, all his supporters should be ashamed too IMO.

Not a surprise to me. Our legal system is a pathetic joke. They figured, "Who cares? We kept his $10,000."

Old school regularly practiced politics pure and simple. Think about all the low profile cases where stuff like this happens. This how non qualified applicants get hired for anything from a staffer/clerk to a police officer. A certain set of politicians usually run a town or city and control everything superseding department heads and administrators with regularity. And they know how to hide this poop too with a series of third party favors and communications. And most 'favor' politics usually means one of two things, favor for friend/family or even worse-part of a bigger plan/scheme.

For the record, I do NOT feel the charges should have been dropped.
Upthread I was addressing the silliness of comparing the Jussie Smollett situation to the OJ Simpson case.

The saddest part of this whole incident is Jussie Smollett's attitude after the charges were dropped.

I'm curious to see how the FBI investigation over the hate/threat letter he mailed to himself plays out.

Yep! I sorta felt sorry for him at first thinkin he had some serious issues about needing attention.

He should have shut his mouth and went home.

Although, I think it's extremely unfair and not right he was not charged with a hate crime.

Typical arrogant attitude of these people, they get to a certain point, and they think they can get away with anything. And we masses just keep proving that they indeed can.

We keep making excuses for them, and buying tickets to their shows .........And they remain on a pedestal !

A fitting punishment for this fool would be requiring him to reimburse the City of Chicago, and any other law enforcement agencies involved, for the 10's of thousands of dollars of taxpayer money they had to waste on this idiots claim.

Smollett's attorney says they are "weighing their options" about HIM suing Chicago. LMAO. I wish he would go there; then the records will be unsealed in the lawsuit discovery.

And I keep wondering where the FBI investigation of this travesty is going, or if the money and privilege got to them, too.
