We fought in World Wars shoulder to shoulder together. We stood by you during 911…landing scores of planes on the East Coast when everything was up for grabs.
I’ve always thought that Canadians were pretty cool people. I was 6 years old in 1958 when I met my very first Canadian, Camille Henry who was a center for the New York Rangers.
I was standing on the sidewalk outside the old Madison Square Garden hoping to catch a glimpse of a player when Camile came around the corner, stopped to say ‘Bonjour’ give me his autograph and laugh as he messed my hair. I was on Cloud Nine.
I met several other Canadian born NHL players on that sidewalk, and each and everyone of them, ALL of them were very kind to me. One night Bobby Hull of the Chicago Black Hawks spent about 10 minutes signing autographs and talking with us New York fans.
Beezer, my great grandparents came from Montreal and a little town south of Quebec. My parents grew up speaking French. And my last name is one of the most common in N. East Canada. And I love Montreal. I do love my own nation. But that doesn't mean I take anything said within Washington's Beltway seriously.
