All these suspect messages go straight to spam. I never see them useless I purposefully view the Spam folder.

I get those all the time claiming to be from the Post Office needing to clarify my shipping address. I actually went to the post office to find out if it was real, and they told me the Post Office doesn't send anything like that out. Somehow this seems to occur after I've ordered something on line, which makes it very convincing, but I haven't bothered to see if it's connected to a specific site.

I don't reply, and my order comes without me verifying my address.

I got a text yesterday telling me that as a special Amazon customer I'm entitled to a $200 Amazon gift card.
This kind of stuff is what I consider out of control. A month ago, I placed an order with Costco, that turned out not to be Costco. The order lingered on hold with a number to call if I had any problems, but that hold site was just trying to get personal information from me.

I got one of those emails. I was about to go down to the Post Office, when it dawned on me- how did the P.O. know my email address????

I've learned not to respond to any of those links offering free gifts or gift cards (a big favorite of theirs), or warning that some service or other is about to be cut off due to non-payment. I love the ones that tell me my check bounced, even though I don't pay those bills by check.

They are getting very clever, and their emails often look realistic. But nearly all of them are scams, usually designed to get into your passwords or bank accounts. You can always check by going to the legitimate web site yourself. Don't believe anything else.

I know. I know! I wondered the same thing. They have your email address, but not your home address? There's some cognitive dissonance in there somewhere.
