Just plain crummy cable channels.

I have cable TV, with a big bunch of channels. A lot of the channels are showing the same series reruns- "Roseanne", " Mash", "Columbo", etc. I'm 71, and a guy, so I'm not holding my breath for a new season of "Say Yes, To The Dress". But I can accept niche channels. Most are pure junk. 8 years of idiots "Finding Sasquatch", and they never found him. And I'm paying for this!!!!!!
I'm done yammering, I'm going to watch TV.

Some folks are switching back to free TV, VIA the newer 'super-antennas' . My neighbor just put one up.With the choices as bad as you note, I'm thinking of looking into it. I need a new TV anyway....Maybe just get a whole new setup ?

I have a Roku and chose a few streaming channels I enjoy. It's still a heck of a lot less than cable TV and I watch what I want to watch. I don't think I could go back to over the air TV because the commercials drive me nuts. You get more commercials than program.

Nearly all of my TV watching is limited to three channels that I pay a few bucks a month for: HBO, Netflix, and Acorn. Their programming is so excellent that I hardly ever watch anything else. (I do make an exception for This is Us, and I liked the Fargo series when it was on, but that's all. Oh, and Jeopardy.)

Butterfly, I agree. I can't stand the commercials, and when I'm stuck with something that has them, I automatically hit the mute button.

Watching TV is, for the most part, much like having a "salesman" sitting on the couch, next to you, and bending your ear with nonsense every few minutes. We get over 200 channels, and on any given day, it's hard to find more than a half dozen with anything worth watching....IMO.

I have a fire stick and a Roku...No need for pay tv!!!!!!!!

No cable here but I do get a couple of those stations, with my converter box and rabbit ears, that only show reruns from back in the day. I guess I'm one of a handful of people that enjoys watching all of the television shows that I missed when I was busy chasing a paycheck.

My thought is that those channels are a cheap way to bring in more advertising dollars and also a cheap way for a television station to keep an extra channel or two in their back pocket for future expansion.

I also have the Roku and stream everything. I pay for Netflix and Amazon but mostly I watch free Youtube which as so many of the documentaries and history I really enjoy. I had Acorn for awhile but got tired of it after some time.

We too have cable, but watch very little of it. We know, we're wasting money, but as a news junkie, I can get a couple of stations that have English-language news programs out of other countries. Most of our TV watching is done via DVD's rented from Netflix. We watch about 5, commercial TV programs at a time. The rest is all Netflix.

That's the trouble with DTV ...and I'm paying to watch the damn commercials !

Remember when cable {Pay} TV meant NO commercials ?

Correct me if I'm wrong, but you need internet to get Roku don't you?

I don't understand all that stuff about streaming. Documentaries are my bag. There are plenty of free ones on You Tube.

They must think they have to do it to get your attention, but the commercials all blare. I can't stand the way they shout and demand.

For years now I have had Roku. It's rare for me to watch regular network TV, mostly because of obnoxious commercials. Hulu and a couple of the streaming channels air commercials so I refuse to subscribe to them. I have Netflix, Amazon and Acorn, and I'm happy with the selection of shows I get from those three channels.

I had Internet before I began streaming. I would still have Internet if I stopped streaming.

Same here. Early on it was a pain because I couldn't watch sporting events on ESPN but thanks to my TMobile cell account I have gotten a free MLB pass every year so baseball is taken care of and for this past college football season I subscribed to the Hulu live TV channel to watch games on ESPN and the Fox sports channel. Once the bowl season is over I'll cancel the Hulu live TV subscription but keep my regular Hulu account.

I cut the cord this year, only a few months ago. I don't watch much TV anyway...certainly not $200 worth every month. I don't miss it.
