Keesha, Where Are You?

Awwww.... you people are so sweet.
My Yorkie got really sick. She first got heat stroke but then she started coughing and couldn’t stop. We took her into the vets and she got blood work done but they took it from her throat. Her throat then became an abscess and started draining stinky yucky stuff and wouldn’t stop . The hole in her neck wouldn’t heal and after a while she couldn’t walk, eat and drink properly.
I took her back to the vet and complained that the hole they put in her neck wasn’t healing.

WELL you cannot imagine my surprise when I discovered what was wrong with her.

She had a BOT FLY lava stuck in her throat and THIS is it!!! It’s not for the faint of heart and it literally makes me sick thinking about it so I apologize for grossing anyone out BUT if your dog is a hunter then this could happen. They are usually found in rabbit or goffer holes. They make a hole in your dogs neck so they can breathe.

Also I’m having problems dealing with my parents. My father is starting to become needlessly aggressive. Apparently he isn’t happy about our cedar tree trimming. He’s complained that he used to have a privacy hedge before we came along and messed it up.

A privacy hedge suggests these cedar trees were maintained at one time. These cedar trees have never been trimmed in 46 years so had overtaken the lawn and were starting to grow over the house and cause mould issues. They were ruining the shingles on the roof and were not letting any sunshine through. He yelled at me viciously about it and gave everyone at the meeting we had a hard time. He’s not being cooperative at all. His OCD is becoming a huge power struggle. He isn’t showering or taking his medication daily nor will he allow anyone to throw anything out including rotting food from the fridge and the health care worker that was there at the time look terrified of him which has left me feeling haunted at the moment.
I am not sure what to do. Dealing with two narcissistic aging parents is really difficult BUT I missed you all terribly.

For a while I wasn’t sleeping properly and was getting a bit batty. Not that I’m not already but..... it was worse:laugh:
 
Keesha...wow, you really have been put through the mill the last few days, I'm sorry to hear that...and Ye Gods...poor little mite, having that vile creature in her throat. I'd not heard of it before, so I'm going to ask my daughter if she has, being as she's got Boarding kennels..and of course many dogs!!

I'm sorry to hear you're having these problems with your father, you shouldn't be expected to take that unless of course he has dementia (which it sounds like it may be) and can't help himself!!

I wish you better things...just glad you're ok,..
 
One of my daughter's cats had a botfly in her cheek!! It was gross. You could actually see the thing peeking out, and then pulling back in every time she tried to grab it. She was a vet tech for years before she married and had kids, and has dealt with botfly issues before. You're right, it's really gross! :(

I'm so sorry about your Dad. Both my parents suffered from dementia before they passed. My Mom could get a little aggressive on occasion, but mostly they both became just very childlike. I have friends though whose parent (s) became just nasty. It's very very rough.
 
Keesha, you sure have a lot on your plate. Oh, poor doggie!

Sorry too, about your father. Sounds like he may also be a hoarder, keeping rotting food. Hopefully another social worker will be able to help him.

Keesha, so sad about your dog, sounds serious, hope she recovers completely. I'm surprised to hear that bot flies are in Canada, aren't they mainly in places like Africa? Sorry you're having to deal with so much with your parents, take care and don't let it all get you down too much.
 
So sorry to read about all your problems. One problem on top of the other. I hope your Yorkie is on the mend. I heard about Botflies but don't think we have them in New Jersey.

Thank you very much for your concern. Surprisingly botflies are native to central and southern America.
She is doing so much better. She had a temperature of 40 degrees and I had to trim her beard fur around her face because it kept getting dirty due to this thing. If I hadn’t complained to the vets that my dogs neck isn’t healing up properly after they took blood from it , I still wouldn’t have known what this thing was.

It IS something nightmare worthy. I think I’m fairly strong and tough especially for a women but this things did me in. Give me snakes and spiders any day over something as disgusting as this anyday. According to the vet they’re actually quite common. :wow: Yep! Nightmare worthy.

My father definitely has signs of dementia BUT he is cognitive enough to understand he was being nasty & difficult and as soon as everyone left I NAILED him on it. I told him to never, ever snap at me again and he said if I didn’t like how he talked with me then I don’t need to talk with him. I said fine, hugged my mom , told her I’d be up next turn because ( my brother ) is out of province visiting his daughter. I told her when the woodchipper was to be rented to chip the pile of cedar trees which got my fathers interest ......

..... but I walked past him out the door saying I wasn’t talking to him. I was furious.

When I got home he called and apologized & I accepted his apology!
It made me realize how badly my parents need professional help more than ever so I’ve started researching Retirement homes. Their family doctor feels they should be in one and so did the women in charge of the meeting the other day. She said that probably within a year they will need to be housed and if wait rules are typically 1 to 2 years then I should start looking NOW, so I currently AM. It means they are probably going to need to sell their home so it’s very sad for everyone.


I made myself some more canna cookies so I can sleep and they work :yes:

Would they know if you did? Is that so unethical when it might give them, and everyone around them, a better quality of life? You're Dad's behavior has almost ruined your relationship. I'm proud of you for forgiving him. That speaks volumes for your character.

I'm so late to this thread and didn't realize what happened to your Yorkie...that poor little baby. Shocking really. You saved his life by questioning the lack of healing to the Vet. Good for you.
 
Seriously Lara I have considered it. My main concern would be them getting too high and calling 911 or something. While it will soon be legal for everyone in Canada in less than 2 months, I would hate to lose my special growing licence . Other than that it’s very tempting. :laugh:
 
I get that. Don't listen to me. I'm just a wild and crazy rebel :laugh: Gosh, that sounds like so much fun, I wish I was!

Seriously, 2 months will be here before we know it. And still, they would probably figure it out and either be mad as hell at you or beg you for more and kiss your feet. Hmm, I know. Why don't you just ask them? That's just crazy enough to work :cheers:
 
I’ve made extra butter and have considered it. I’m hoping that they might slow down on the drinking. The drinking will kill them eventually. Yep! They might actually like it. They like gingerbread biscuits. :smug1:
