King Charles the third and Queen Camilla will arrive in Ottawa this morning to begin a Royal Tour. He will deliver the Speech From The Throne in Parliament tomorrow at 11 AM.

Today the Royal couple will be greeted at the airport by a 50 person guard of Honor, mounted by the most senior Canadian Army Armoured Regiment, the Royal Canadian Dragoons. The royal couple will be met by the Govenor General, the Prime Minister, and various members of the Senate.

This evening, there will be a State Dinner, held at the residence of the Govenor General, Rideau Hall.

On Tuesday, King Charles and Queen Camilla will travel to Parliament riding in the Canadian State landau carriage, which will be pulled by 6 black horses, provided by the Royal Canadian Mounted Police. The King will address the combined Houses of Parliament. His Speech will outline the new legislation that the newly elected Government intends to introduce in this session of Parliament.

In the after noon on Tuesday, the King will attend a Remembrance Service at the Tomb Of The Unknown Canadian Soldier, at the National War Memorial, in Confederation Square in Ottawa. As a former serving Royal Navy officer, the King will be dressed as a First Sea Lord. The Third Battalion of the Royal Canadian Regiment will mount a 100 person Guard of Honor at the Tomb, and a 21 gun salute will be fired by the BY Town Gunners, of the Royal Canadian Artillery Corps.

This Royal Visit is intended to show to the world, including the United States, that Canada is an independent, sovereign nation, with world wide friends in the Commonwealth Of Nations. Hopefully, the message will be clear. JIM.

If the British king's action is necessary for this, Canada is NOT an independent nation. And why does Canada have a Govenor General? Only the U.S. are independent.

My husband, Canadian, would have agreed with your statement George. He hated Britain's influence on Canada.

The Untied States has no monarchy. Hollywood is their de facto monarchy...Brad Pitt, Jolie...etc.

Trump has tried to bully Canada with this 51st State nonsense, so we're bringing over our King to set the record straight. Go Charles Go! :)

I agree Chares III's trip is a gigantic royal middle finger to a certain U.S. President.
But I don't really understand why Canada and Australia, et al. still are part of the British Empire. They are independent nations.
The very simple answer ...It's OUR history. WE are not about to turn our back on our own history and traditions. Every one of our national institutions from Parliamentary Democracy, to our common law system, to our citizenship, is based on our traditions. It works for us. JIM

It is not necessary at all that the King come to Canada. It is a ceremonial role only. When the monarch performs the ceremony in person, rather than through the governor general it is a very special event. That Charles is coming to Canada at this time, not long after being treated for cancer makes it even more special.

The same thing happens in other commonwealth countries that are constitutional monarchies, Australia included. I can assure you that Australia, like Canada, is quite independent. We are governed by parliament, not by any foreign power.

We are not part of the British Empire. That disappeared last century by agreement as the former colonies achieved independence from Britain. Some joined the (British) Commonwealth of nations e.g. Australia, Canada, New Zealand but others took the opportunity to dissolve all ties with Westminster e.g. Ireland and India.

We are independent in that we don't take orders from any foreign government, but we do form alliances with like-minded countries for defence purposes. UK and US are very important to us and it is a two way arrangement. We depend on each other.

Talk of America first and America alone does make us very uneasy about our future.

Of course the Commonwealth countries are de facto independent nations, responsible for their own foreign policies, their own economies, their own political and legal structures. As a Yank, I consider the Brits, Aussies, NZ's and our Canadian neighbors as cousins and I'm glad we're allies too. I would prefer my countrymen to exercise a bit more polite respect for the Commonwealth countries. Let's not forget they and we have been comrades in arms.

Yesterday our Members of Parliament elected the new Speaker of The House. The new Speaker is a long time Member, from a district in Montreal. He is fluently Bi-Lingual. The role of the Speaker is to act as the decider in situations where the House is dead locked, by casting his vote. The Speaker has NO political power, his role is to control debate and decorum in The house.

The Speaker has the power to "Name A Member " and eject them from The House, for using "UN-Parliamentary words or actions " during a debate. Being ejected by The Speaker means that particular Member cannot return to their seat until they have personally apologized, both to the House in general, and to The Speaker directly.

Today, the Black Rod will knock on the entrance doors of The House, seeking permission to enter. Members of the House will welcome the Black Rod, and the Sgt At Arms, who will carry in the Crown Mace, the symbol of the Right Of The Crown, in Canada. During all sessions of The House, The Mace rests on the table in front of The Speaker. This shows that Parliament is in session.

In attendance today will be the Members of Parliament, the Members of the Senate, the 9 Justices of the Canadian Supreme Court, the Premiers of the ten Provinces, the 3 Territorial Governors, the Leaders of the First Nations, and in the Gallery, invited members of the Canadian public. The CBC TV network will cover the day's events from the morning to the late afternoon departure of King Charles and Queen Camila from Ottawa airport on nationwide broadcasts.

Long Live The King.

BBC royal correspondent Daniela Relph assesses the significance and symbolism of King Charles' trip to Canada where he will open the parliament in Ottawa - following in the footsteps of his mother Queen Elizabeth who carried out the same duty in 1957.

It's also an important trip for Canada's new Prime Minister, Mark Carney, who has dealt with tariff whiplash and talks of annexation from US President Donald Trump.

Carney will be hoping the King's visit strengthens ties with the UK and shows off his country's sovereignty.

King Charles III will deliver a significant speech in Canada's parliament later on Tuesday that is expected to offer his support in the country's dispute with US President Donald Trump.
The King and Queen Camilla received a warm welcome when they arrived in Ottawa, on the royal couple's first trip to Canada since the start of their reign.
Soon after arriving, the King, who is Canada's head of state, held a meeting with Prime Minister Mark Carney, recently elected on a wave of anti-Trump public opinion.
Carney has praised the "historic ties" that make up Canada's independent identity, including the "vitality of our constitutional monarchy", which he said "crises only fortify".
Carney invited the King to deliver the speech at the opening of parliament after his recent general election victory, in a campaign dominated by the threats to Canada's sovereignty from Trump.
It will be the first time in almost 50 years that a monarch gives the Speech from the Throne, with the King's decision to come to parliament in Ottawa seen as a symbolic show of support for Canada.
The King's speech will be written on the advice of the Canadian government, with the expectation that it will send a clear, if diplomatic, message that the country is "not for sale" to the US.
Carney said in advance that the speech, to be delivered in French and English, would match "the weight of our times".
On Monday afternoon, the King and Carney held a meeting at Rideau Hall, the residence of Canada's governor-general, with both men sitting in front of Canadian flags.
There were also meetings with leaders of Canada's indigenous and First Nations groups, including Cindy Woodhouse, the national chief of the Assembly of First Nations.

I’m sure most Canadians if not all Canadians bear no grudge towards the citizens of USA. I seriously don’t think the Canadians will ever pit themselves against American citizens because of some rhetoric from government heads. It’s a whole lot of showmanship and I think Canada could use those funds allotted for this visit elsewhere rather than trying to score a point. I have nothing against King Charles, in fact, I quite like him and Queen Camilla.

The very first line of the King's speech today. " As the Canadian National anthem says "Canada is the true north, Strong and Free ". He went on to point out that Canada has to move forward beyond "Past friendships" and become a world leader in commerce and increase our trading relationships with Europe, and Asia. In order to do that the new Government has committed to doing more, faster, and with deceased amounts of red tape.

Canada will be building new oil and gas pipelines and an all weather railway line to the Arctic port of Churchill, Manitoba, to sell our natural resources to the world, not to the USA. Canada will remove the GST tax on all new homes built in the next ten years. Canada will develop a new national red seal apprenticeship plan, to train a half a million new skilled trades people in the next 5 years. Canada will reduce Immigration down to 5 percent of our population, effective this year.

The Government has indicated that the CBSA border agency will get increased manpower, more drones, more helicopters, and the RCMP will recruit and train one thousand more officers, starting this September. The Canadian Forces will get new fighter jets from Sweden, new patrol ships from Australia, and increase their presence in our Arctic regions, including a new year round RCN base in Nunavut.

An ambitious national plan. One that includes the First Nations, Innu, and Metis people as partners in our country's future . Let the work begin.
