King Charles III’s introduction to Major League Baseball was a 1970 Senators game

To celebrate last month’s coronation of King Charles III, the Nationals on Wednesday hosted their second annual “US-UK Friendship Day” in partnership with the British Embassy in Washington. With the British flag flying above Nationals Park’s left field plaza, the British national anthem played and British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak was introduced on the field before Washington’s 6-2 loss to the Arizona Diamondbacks. His Majesty evidently couldn’t be bothered to cross the pond to see Patrick Corbin pitch.

"It wouldn’t have been the first baseball game the king attended in D.C. On July 18, 1970, during his first visit to the United States, then 21-year-old Prince Charles and his 19-year-old sister, Princess Anne, took in the first several innings of the Washington Senators’ 4-0 win over the California Angels at RFK Stadium. They were joined by President Richard M. Nixon’s daughters, Julie and Tricia, and Julie’s husband, David Eisenhower, who worked as a statistician for the Senators and had arranged the visit."

“Arriving one minute late to the respectful cheers of 8,111, the VIP party baked in Washington’s relentless July sun for only an inning,” The Washington Post reported. “Then, apparently on the suggestion of Charles, they transferred to a roofed field box for the next four. They left after eight hits, next to no excitement, two unearned Senators’ runs, and the thermometer registered 91 degrees.”

"A new AUS$5 million race, the King Charles III Stakes (G1), celebrating both the King's ascension to the throne and reflecting the huge prize money available at the Sydney Everest carnival, has been announced by Racing New South Wales."

"The inaugural King Charles III Stakes will be run at Royal Randwick over 1,600 meters (one mile) at weight-for-age conditions Oct. 14 alongside the TAB Everest, the second-richest race in the world and the richest race on turf, whose prize money will increase to AUS$20m."

"Additional prize money and new races will mean a further AUS$12 million in purses will be available throughout Australia's richest carnival."

'Astra Carta': King Charles III launches framework for boosting sustainability in outer space

"The Astra Carta framework was unveiled yesterday by King Charles III at a reception at Buckingham Palace."

"The SMI said the new Astra Carta, which offers a roadmap for how companies can work in partnership with governments, organisations and other stakeholders to align space-related activities with sustainability goals and standards, has been launched to "shape a future of responsible and sustainable space exploration, development and cooperation".

"The Astra Carta builds on the principles of the SMI's Terra Carta, a document launched in 2020 by King Charles III - then still Prince of Wales - which sets out principles for putting "nature, people and planet at the heart of global value creation".

"The new Astra Carta framework also recognises "the unique role that space can play in creating sustainable Earth and the need for space-related industries to consider environmental and sustainability impacts both on and beyond our planet".

"King Charles III first outlined his vision for space sustainability at the Space Sustainability Summit in 2022. The Astra Carta was created with input and inspiration from space and industry experts, including former Canadian astronaut and commander of the International Space Station Colonel Chris Hadfield."

London CNN — "You may have thought all the major royal moments of the year were over… but hold your horses because one more is coming up. Scotland will celebrate the accession of King Charles III with its own festivities on Wednesday."

" The ceremonial events are part of Holyrood Week – also known as Royal Week – which takes place annually and customarily sees the monarch travel to various regions in the country celebrating Scottish culture, achievement and community.

"King Charles and Queen Camilla will be joined by Prince William and Kate, who go by their Scottish titles of the Duke and Duchess of Rothesay when north of the border."

“Scotland will welcome the new King and Queen in July with a series of events to mark the Coronation. They consist of the crown, sceptre and sword of state."

"Traditionally, new British monarchs are presented with them after their coronation and this will take place at the Service of Thanksgiving and Dedication to be held at St Giles next week."

"The Stone of Destiny will also be in St Giles' Cathedral for the service after playing a significant part in the Coronation at Westminster Abbey."

"A people's procession of about 100 community groups will collect The Honours from Edinburgh Castle and take them to the nearby cathedral. Then during the service, Dame Katherine Grainger DBE will bear the Elizabeth Sword, with the sceptre carried by Lady Dorrian, The Lord Justice Clerk, and the crown will be carried by The Duke of Hamilton."

"Dame Katherine said: "It will be an incredible honour to carry the Elizabeth Sword on such a historic day for Scotland. "I hope I can do the sword, and the occasion, justice. Falklands releases King Charles III coronation commemorative 50 pence coins

"Issued on behalf of the Falkland Islands, the coin has been produced in Cupro Nickel Diamond Finish and Proof Sterling Silver. Approved by Buckingham Palace this coin carries our effigy of His Majesty King Charles III produced exclusively by Pobjoy Mint."

Thomas Bell made a little piece of history when King Charles III and Queen Camilla visited his home town of Selkirk.

"He is the royal burgh's standard bearer and carried out the traditional casting of the colours at its common riding last month.
And on Thursday he delivered a repeat performance for the royal couple.
Large crowds turned out to get a glimpse of the King and Queen as they toured the Scottish Borders."

"Laura Kibble, of Camerons Bakery, also met the royal party and said she was "quite chuffed" to have done so."
"The King came along and our son presented him with a Selkirk bannock," she said.
"He was just chatting and asking what ingredients were inside.
"I didn't know what to expect first thing this morning - but it is so lovely to see so many out."

"Colin Turnbull, who runs a shoe repair business, took the opportunity to thank the King for an opportunity he was offered more than 15 years ago."

"He was just asking about the type of work I do and I was telling him it is all traditional," he said.
"But also I cheekily had the chance to thank him because if it wasn't for the Prince's Scottish Youth Business Trust back in 2007 I wouldn't be here.
"We just talked about work, what I do. He was really down to earth."
