Knife safety

Hi there,

I'm in my final year at university and would find any feedback so valuable to my project.
I am designing a knife safety product for senior users during food preparation.

Can you tell me any issues you have come across with kitchen knives and how you feel your experience could be improved?

Many thanks in advance!!!!!

I watched chefs on TV & noted how they use knives. I haven't been cut in several years.
When I get too old to safely chop, I'll get one of those gloves that prevent cuts.

Why would seniors need a "knife safety product" any more than anyone else?
Thanks for all the responses so far, from secondary research seniors tend to have higher rates of knife related accidents than other users, mostly due to the fact that they enjoy cooking more, vision tends to decline and general dexterity problems. Has anyone ever experienced an accident within the kitchen whilst handling knives here?

Many thanks once more!:)

I don't know.. it would see reasonable enough to seek help from 'Seniors' on relevant subjects. However, I resent the idea that because we are senior / mature / experienced or what ever, that we're losing our marbles and need an increasing array of gadgets to compensate for our failings.
Hi, that is not at all what I am representing here. I am looking at individuals who do struggle and are open to useful products. If you feel you are not part of that group then that is no problem, just trying to gather some data and thought this would be a great way of interacting with multiple users:)

I'm not interpreting it that way. I welcome anything that might prevent injury. And--like it or not--we do make more mistakes as we age.

I'm good!

OK,
Handle design and handle material that help prevent your hands slipping down on the blade.
Not all kitchen knives need to have sharp points, rounded points will often work just fine.
Should be dishwasher safe so that people don't feel compelled to wash them by hand.
