Very interesting behaviour. Koalas and humans in the wild seldom interact. They stay high up in the trees and we seldom even know that they are there. Occasionally one may be seen on the ground moving from one tree to another but they tend to ignore people. They were once hunted for fur almost to extinction and have been a protected, and much loved species, ever since those days.
I suspect they have lost their fear of humans because we have recently seen instances where they have actually approached people when thirsty or hurt by the fires. Normally they get all the moisture they need from moist gum shoots. Cute is not the right word. It is heart rending to see this happening.
