Ladies: What's up with the bare legs?

So, for the past few years I've been trying to figure out why many women of all ages don't wear hosiery (e.g. pantyhose, tights) with dresses and skirts anymore. It's one thing to go bare-legged in the summer and wear sandals, but having bare legs in an office environment or at a formal gathering looks tacky to me, especially in the dead of winter if you live in a cold climate. Stuffing one's sweaty, sticky bare feet into a pair of close-toed pumps can't be very hygienic. It's just...well....icky.

Opinions?

Agreed.

I don't really care what anyone does, it's just my opinion.

I rarely see women in dresses and skirts anymore.
Where I used to work (IRS) it was always casual dress, lots of jeans or long skirts, pj's (yes), etc.

So, I've never even given it a thought about women and hosiery.

May be downtown in some of the law offices, but those are places I never visit.
Oh...I have an issue with girls and women wearing pajamas in public, too. Another dumb trend.

No more hose, I have beaten enough. Mind you, I don't go out in anything that would require them. If I was going to a wedding or a funeral these days I prefer a nice suit with pants. I can't even think of what to call them, come up to the knee, dress socks, black or other colors that are shear with a pattern. (trouser socks) Can you guess I don't get out a lot. Last time I had to do up with full makeup, hair and dress clothes was 4 years ago.

I hear you. I almost always wear pants and a nice fancy top for special occasions. I have skirts in my closet that I haven't worn in years....and maybe one dress. LOL

It's pretty casual where I live; leggings and levies.
I have one ankle length dress. Haven't given any
thought to nylons or not.
OMG!!!! I just realized, I remember I was in a dress
shop when the clerks unpacked the first order of pantyhose
and they said "This will never catch on!"
OMG! Does that make me feel old!

Men complain about how uncomfortable it is wearing a tie. I say that if they spent one day in a pair of panty hose that's like an Everglades python wrapped around your mid-section, they'd stop complaining about the tie.

I wore a pair of pantyhose to a wedding several months ago. It was the first time in years I had a pair on and it'll be years before I do that again.

No pantyhose for me.

Even when I wore a size 6, 115lbs, those panty hose were torture. LOL I think that is why a lot of young women these days have boob jobs or lifts, they are fed up with bras. Can't say I blame them, I only put one on if I have to leave the house.
Do we still have to wear bras in the winter? Isn't that what zip hoodies are for?
Hey! I was a size 6, 115 lbs for YEARS! I remember that!
Was that in this lifetime?

No, I can get by in the winter in hoodies or sweat shirts but oddly enough I still feel like I need to wear a Tshirt underneath if I go out. LOL That size 6, 115 lbs, I fought for everyday, nonstop jogging, classes at the gym, swimming for miles, starving the whole time. Had enough of that in my late twenties. No good to look good if you don't feel good. I did pretty well until the mid 40's, then came my husbands cancer, menopause, raising a teenager. Let's just say, the world fell apart and so did I. Now, if you will excuse me, I must go get my milk and cookies. LOL

Rough times! I had TWO teenagers! No hubby. three jobs.
You know what, Blessed? We DESERVE milk and cookies!

This is how old I am: When I was 14, my mom bought me a pair of white, fish-net stockings with a garter belt. I still remember how uncomfortable that darn thing was. The garters pulled every time I sat down. And it was quite a feat hiding the tops of my stockings under my mini-dress! LOL

That's odd.. I never thought they were uncomfortable at all.

Yes. I feel like a bratwurst sausage when I wear tights, which is rarely.

There was a forum I was on and pantyhose were considered out of fashion. Tights were ok, even the sheer ones. IMO, sheer tights are pantyhose. LOL.

I remember buying a pair of Leggs. They’d just come on the market and my friends and I roared with laughter when I opened that plastic egg. Those things were so comfortable compared to a girdle. It was 1969.

I don't go bare legged in the summer either, even though I wear long dresses and skirts or pants. And because I do, thank God I don't have to deal with pantyhose anymore..I wear knee highs. I think women should wear hose when they are going into the workplace. What I think is tacky is wearing those short (what my mother used to call bobtail) skirts to work.
