Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi arrived in Moscow on Sunday to consult with Russian President Vladimir Putin following US strikes on key nuclear sites, Iran’s semi-official Fars News Agency said.

Earlier, Russia’s foreign ministry said it “strongly condemns” the US strikes, calling them an “irresponsible decision” that “flagrantly violates international law,” despite Moscow having repeatedly violated international law in its ongoing, unprovoked war in Ukraine.

“We call for an end to aggression and for increased efforts to create conditions for returning the situation to a political and diplomatic track,” the ministry said, warning that the US strikes mean “a dangerous round of escalation has begun,” which risks “further undermining” security in the region

Russians are too busy with the war in Ukraine now. Perhaps Putin would rather loose influence in the Middle East than loosing Ukraine War. Look what happened in Syria this year.

It's a political war, and therefore will have political ramifications. I don't see much of any gains.

Put it this way - there was a war in Afghanistan to bring about change. All these years later, how much better is it really?

Come on people, we're all oldsters here and will remember the history of the region. For example, Iraq, with the help of the US, and under Saddam Hussein, invaded Iran in 1980 to bring about "regime change". The war went on for the best part of a decade.

So where did that lead us? There is also a discussion to be had (though highly unlikely) about just whom, in the region, are the aggressors.

Iran has launched at least 10 missiles at the United States' biggest base in the Middle East and another in Iraq in response to President Trump bombing nuclear labs over the weekend.

Aerial defenses were activated shortly after a 'credible threat' alert was issued to the Al Udeid base in Qatar, which hosts over 10,000 US troops as well as over 100 aircraft, strategic bombers and tankers.

US bases in Kuwait, Iraq and Bahrain also sounded their air raid sirens shortly after the Al Udeid base was targeted by Iranian missiles.

It comes as Iran warned the United States will 'directly pay' for strikes on its nuclear facilities 'rather than standing behind Israel,' with the Islamic Republic prepared for a war lasting up to two years, a senior Iranian official told reporters.

Tehran's mission to the UN said the US and Israel, as well as the United Kingdom, France and the International Atomic Energy Agency director personally, will all 'bear full responsibility for the death of innocent civilians in Iran.'

The US president used 30,000 pound bunker buster bombs to hit its nuclear facilities on Saturday night, then sparked Iranian fury when he raised the prospect of regime change the next day.

Iranian state media warning that up to 50,000 American soldiers would be returned to Washington in 'coffins'.

Israel also launched an attack on 'regime targets' in Tehran on Monday, with 'hundreds' of members of Iran's Revolutionary Guard Corps said to have been killed in a huge wave of strikes.

Iran has been in turmoil ever since the Shah was booted in 1979, since then Iran (and proxies) have attacked US bases and assets hundreds of times. Now they finally got their comeuppance and a very severe warning.

But to them, life is cheap, so expect more attacks.

Can't say we didn't see that coming.

"You smug-faced crowds with kindling eye
Who cheer when soldier lads march by,
Sneak home and pray you'll never know
The hell where youth and laughter go."

Excerpt from "Suicide in the Trenches", a poem about World War 1 by UK poet and soldier (decorated for bravery) Siegfried Sassoon.
